IMO.....the most notable difference is Home will only do workgroups, not domains.
Make sure it has product code. You left that part off. :^)
They may still try to foist some version of Vista upon us, by leveraging their control over us via XP. Then we'll eventually, and begrudgingly, accept a Vista version that's just so-so, while XP receives less and less support from MS.
Weird strategy, but while it's worked so far for MS, they're losing good will in the process.
Not good you're having issues with W2K. I was about to clean an old one and re-install that for granddaughter.
Instead of XP, go here:
www.apple.com
...and get youself a nice imac. It’s Christmas!
Same for XP MEDIA. It cannot join a domain.
Only reason I went out and bought a system with XP is because my professional soft wear supplier was stopping support for 98. Vista? No way.
Do it. My OS of choice has been for awhile Win2K SP4.
It’s run on every single machine I have with no problems at all - except this new hardware I’m playing with, and I need USB to run my HP printer.
So I just got back from Wally World and Bill Gates is a hundred bucks richer. Got XP Home Edition upgrade pack.
I’ll set it up for dual boot and only use XP when I want to print.
Best Buy, $99.99 just upgraded an old HP with Windows Me to XP. Now I can't install anything so I'll be working around the new OS. Rats.
The best reason to find a copy of XP these days is because you want to run Fusion on a Mac and to be legal about it you need an XP license.
Best of all worlds: Mac Stability, XP compatibility
Saw the discussion upthread about wshich version to use. I'm running both and so far, knock-knock, haven't found anyplace where I'm restricted in what I want to do. Office in another issue though, mostly in the mail, Outlook vs. Outlook express.
Anytime I have had the opportunity, I have ALWAYS dumped OUTLOOK and went for OUTLOOK EXPRESS.
It is simply much cleaner. I don’t need all the bell and whistle crap. At least not at home.
If I didn't take it home, I wouldn't have to worry about it. :)

Outlook Express has a lot of problems that can be exploited by the bad guys out there... If you need something for pop3/smtp mail, you might want to give Mozilla Thunderbird a try. It's less vulnerable that Outlook Express (known around the industry as "LookOut Express."

Need it for Dualies....not sure if it does quads....
i already have windows xp, but thank you for thinking of me!
(I feel so special)
;)
(merry christmas!)

when will XP be no longer sold in stores?
There’s nothing weird about ending support for products. All companies do it, otherwise MS would still be supporting DOS. Base non-service packed XP ended support in 2004, XPPSP1 support ended in 2006, XPSP2 support is scheduled to end in April of 2009 though then it goes into “extended support” which is basically just patching security issues which lasts until 2014. Anybody that’s still clinging to the body of XP come 2014 either knows it well enough that they won’t need support or is a victim of a sci-fi time vault accident.
