Mayaguez, Puerto Rico--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--May 16, 2007--Most people don’t stop bad habits until they have had a serious health scare. Such was the case for presidential candidate and former Arkansas governor, Mike Huckabee, when he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2002. After his personal success at shedding 100-plus pounds, he has found a platform to share his secrets to creating better health habits in Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork.

Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care, today announced the availability of 35,000 Spanish-translated copies of this best-selling book, which can be ordered free of charge by visiting http://www.librodediabetes.com. Community members can receive the book for free on May 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Puerto Rican Diabetes Association’s free fair “Prevention and Control of Diabetes” at the Mayaguez Resort & Casino. The event is open to the public and will feature free health screenings, exhibition booths with products for diabetes control, and educational sessions.

I hope this isn’t “off topic,” but what, in a nutshell, does the book advise with respect to diet and health?

It is more of a rah-rah tome. It doesn’t tell you HOW to diet and exercise. It only tries to get you motivated to do it.

How do you figure?

Sugar and lots of it is a major contributer to type 2 diabetes

Well, at the very least, if you don’t go to excess on anything its awful hard to point to something as being a major factor.

Rather:

The term "it's" should be rendered "its."

Many now think that he lost his weight through gastric bypass surgery.

Many now think that he lost his weight through gastric bypass surgery.

That was my impression, truthfreedom, but I didn't know he had become a type II diabetic, although I would not have been surprised. Thanks for the links.

I posted the thread mainly because of his relation with Novo Nordisk, a major embryonic stem cell researcher, and the appearance of questionable funding.

Freepmail me if you want on or off of the diabetes ping list.

Thanks for the ping and plug restorunu!

My piece on Huckabee's possible gastric bypass was posted first at Free Republic: What if Huckabee's 'signature issue' is a scam? on December 11th (where it was immediately labeled a vanity and relegated to chat).

To write the article in HTML I started a blog , which I subsequently put online, and it has been the blog article rather than the FR thread that has "richocheted around the right blogosphere" (according to Vanity Fair ). My blog has gotten 6600 hits, and it has been linked to scores of blogs .

The goal is for an MSM reporter to ask Huckabee whether his weight loss was due to gastric bypass or not. He has never been asked! If he either denies or admits to gastric bypass, there is a news story.

Huckabee has so used his weight loss, to rise from obscurity, to cut a Presidential figure, provide a policy initiative, and pad his Presidential resume with an amazing achievement, that an admission now that it was a secret surgery and subsequent fraud would demolish his already shaky credibility, and greatly accelerate the Huckabust.

If this does get into the MSM, remember it was at FR first (in chat).

That the (bogus?) diet book was translated to Spanish, bought by a corporation, then given away makes the whole weight loss business look more and more like a income enhancement scheme. Huckabee had a lot of lucrative speaking engagements related to his 'signature issue' of fitness and weight control as well. This explains why he might have continued the lie, he was making a living off it!

Well, I think it’s neat that he lost 100 lbs and improved his health. I respect him for that.
