The Anoka County courthouse revealed documents Wednesday that charge 35-year-old Scott Martin Treptow with the shooting of a Robbinsdale Police officer.
Treptow, of Coon Rapids, claims a plain-clothed officer forced him off of the road on June 7. When the two men confronted each other, Treptow claimed the officer pointed a gun at his wife.
"We were about three feet away from each other and he pointed the gun at my wife. It was a tough situation, but I couldnt drive away at that particular moment and I had to protect my family," said Treptow.
Treptow, a trained security guard, shot the Robbinsdale officer in both of his legs.
A grand jury charged Treptow with drive by shooting, reckless discharge of a firearm and terroristic threats.
"He was just scared and he just did what he thought was the right thing to do at that moment to protect his family," said Treptows attorney, Kurt Glaser.
Glaser said Treptow has a strong case, if it ever reaches a courtroom.
"Hes faced with some other person whos driving crazy down the road, confronts him, and pulls out a gun. Scott did exactly what he thoughtand he was trainedto do," said Glaser.
The Robbinsdale officer will appear in court Thursday.
If convicted of all charges, Treptow faces a maximum sentence of 17 years in prison.
What's that saying about indicting a ham sandwich? Even if the guard was in the wrong, the drive by and terrorism charges are a joke.
If that were the bedroom of another brother of mine, who tends to sleep with his pistol in close proximity, it might not have been my nephew that received the punishment.
God bless and protect this man, Treptow — and use him for police reform.

I think the choice of charges is telling. They didn’t charge him with any act against the other guy per se, just flipped through the books till they found suff they thought they could make stick relating to details of the encounter. If the state thinks the guy was wrong, why aren’t they charging him with ADW or something based on the substance of the incident like that?

This case will re-ignite the lefties in the legislature to try and repeal our carry law. Bet on it.
