Living northeast of Buffalo on Grand Island we have a snowblower all ready to go.

Is that where you guys get 80 feet of snow every year?

No, Syracuse consistently gets more snow than us. Last year Oswego got nailed with 11 feet.

Most of the snow that hits here is in ski country 2 hours south of Buffalo. We just get the bad name.. : )

Actually the winters here are no worse than Massachusetts where I spent 30 years of my life.

Let’s see, we brought in plenty of wood, filled up the suet and bird feeder, hit up the store for driveway salt, it’s been pretty icy, got some extra batteries, and I just finished making a big pot of homemade hot and sour soup with some eggrolls for lunch and we are watching the snow fall. When it gets snowy I always make soup.

Alaska is usually left out when they map the USA, which is deliberate. We have seasonal conditions too, although they wouldn’t be called weather. Wind gusting to 7, fresh snow up to 2”, temnperature as high as -5, sky overcast during any given meteor shower.

“Apparently we all make french toast when the weather turns bad.”

My wife does that! We have enough stuff stored to last us a couple of weeks (at least!), but whenever the rare chance of snows comes - she’s off to the store to by those three items! I asked her why and she said - “that’s just what you do!”

I’m in Falls Church - this summer, I bought a second plow truck, a salt spreader for the old truck, and a new wood stove that heats the whole house.

So of course, I expect rain. ;)

We had a major ice storm a few years back and I picked up a generator because the power wasn’t restored for over a week.

Out here on the Oregon Coast we lost our power for two days a couple of weeks ago (100MPH winds!). We were lucky - some of our neighbors to the north lost their power for nearly a week. Mr. Inspectorette and some of our neighbors are seriously considering automatic standby generators. You can use either propane, or hook into natural gas. They kick on automatically when the power goes out.

They're a little pricey, but they are a capital investment that add to the value of the house.

GORGEOUS pic!

I’m cooking ham tomorrow — so there will be ham and bean soup on the menu here this week!
