The Republican Candidate I'm Looking For...
me | 12/9/07 | andy58-in-nh

Posted on 12/09/2007 7:40:04 AM PST by andy58-in-nh

The candidate that I am looking for has not emerged yet, but if he does, he would possess….

Mitt Romney’s energy
Ron Paul’s economic policy
Tom Tancredo’s border control
Rudy Guiliani’s foreign policy
Fred Thompson’s sense of humor
John McCain’s experience and
Mike Huckabee’s faith.

The problem is, what I fear we are going to get is….

Fred Thompson’s energy
Mike Huckabees’s economic policy
John McCain’s border control
Rudy Guiliani’s sense of humor
Tom Tancredo’s experience
Ron Paul’s foreign policy and
Mitt Romney’s faith.

Reminds me of shopping for cars. I can’t find one that has every feature or gizmo that I want. Even the ones closest to what I want are missing something. So I choose the one that comes closest.

I guess that’s what we are doing now in the primary season. And I’ll support the Republican nominee even if he is not everything I want in a candidate.

Great post! While this election is too important especially if Billary gets the nod, I'll vote for whomever the GOP puts up .....but....still wish we had the vote to abstain.

I don’t say this for the purpose of insulting you, but this election is quite a serious matter and I expect anyone participating in public debate to be held accountable for their comments.

The only way to conclude Fred Thompson lacks energy is by falling for media lies. The only way to illustrate such a conclusion is with the repetition of clichés and falsehoods. In this instance, objective evidence is your enemy.

If you think Fred Thompson lacks energy, you are not a serious thinker.

One thing we probably know the least about is each candidate’s faith. In a presidential election, everything a candidate says about himself is, by definition, political rhetoric.

Those who lay their faith on the table to be used as a political tool are more suspect than those who limit the political rhetoric about their faith while protecting it they way I would expect them to do.

If you think Fred Thompson lacks energy, you are not a serious thinker.

And you, my FRiend are looking at the world through Fred colored glasses.

I agree with the OP, and could almost narrow it down more. We need a candidate with Freds ideas, but Mike Huckabees presentation.

I am a WOT voter, so I will be voting for Rudy, with Huckabee being my last choice (the man is not a War time President!!!), but obviously Fred has not lit the GOP nominations by storm.

Anyone could still win, and I will support them all, but Fred is too little, too late in the presentation department. This is not a criticism of the man, but of the candidate.

Thompson’s record, his campaign statements and his ability to articulate ideas all demonstrate that he has the substance conservatives have been looking for.

The media has launched a major attack against Fred Thompson because they know he is the only contender who will fight for lower taxes, against terrorism and in favor traditional Christian values.

The “too little too late” label is nothing but a fraud invented by this media attack.

Fred Thompson is a winner.

I don't post this for the purpose of insulting you, either, but there is a reason why I posted under General Chat and Humor (not Politics/Activism). I am purposely making fun of the perceptions of the various candidates that we have all come to see and hear, whether they are entirely valid or not. I am also playing on an old joke about Heaven and Hell. As a wise man once said....

Lighten up, Francis.

Well, thank you for that. I happen to like Fred Thompson for a variety of reasons, and I certainly would vote for him against any of the Democrats. But to many of us (constitutionally hyperactive) New Englanders, he does seem a little slow-paced - not that there's anything wrong with that. ;-)

You left out Duncan Hunter, from both lists.

And I will support the Republican nominee... as long as he is pro-life.

I purposely did not include Duncan Hunter in my list, even though he is my favorite. One reason is because I believe his greatest attribute to be a consistent fidelity to conservative principle, something which all the other candidates lack. The other is because his candidacy will likely end after February 2nd due to a lack of money after the major primaries have been held. I’m holding out hope that this will (finally) be the year a dark horse emerges from the pack of favored Establishment candidates.
