The antiwar movie Lions for Lambs is definitely a bomb/dud at the boxoffice. More people give this movie a flunking grade than all other grades combined.
The opposite of Lions for Lambs is the movie Bella, which is only playing at under 500 theaters -- despite some good numbers from the box office with nothing but a grassroots mode of telling people about the movie.
In the case of Lions for Lambs, the liberal left loonies of Hollywood wanted to come up with an Anti-war movie to hurt the conservatives in time for the 2008 Election.
Seems they have instead created an expensive bomb.
Bella, on the other hand, is a first movie for the director, and takes on some controversial material.
The leading lady is pregnant, and that is how the movie starts off.
Both the leading man and leading lady have problems in their lives. They spend some time together to try to get through a tough day for both of them.
I found Bella to move fast enough to keep me closely watching the movie. I found any noises while watching the film annoying -- it was a great experience for me.
But let us get back to why Lions for Lambs is a good thing for the movie Bella. Basically, Lions for Lambs is playing at over 2,000 theaters.
Now those theaters must find another movie or something else to help sell popcorn and candy.
With the numbers that accountants watch being so positive by Bella, more theaters will mean more dollars in the Hollywood pie -- the boxoffice gross.
And it is an important movie season coming up -- the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years Holidays.
One has, on the left/liberal/loony hand a stinker called Lions for Lambs that is so bad that people just get up and walk out of the theater. I figure they just got taken for the $10 ticket for the movie, but they don't want to be tortured anymore.
On the other hand, the right hand where one finds people praying to God, and a solid family environment displayed at one point, you a movie that will brighten your day.
I am speaking about Bella.
I literally rode a bicycle in the rain to see Bella and I am not disappointed that I did.
I found it to be a great experience. Sort of like a Singing in the Rain experience.
And maybe that is the truth of Bella, for there are some dark troubles that some of the characters are dealing with.
I was kind of surpised by the ending. But that is a good thing.
If you like love stories, then you probably will like Bella. If you like children, you will probably like Bella. And if you like movies that will have you crying towards the end, then you might like Bella.
I don't know why I liked the Bella movie so much, but it did agree with my Christian beliefs. It did agree with the beliefs my parents taught me. And it did agree with what I have learned in the real world.
Maybe someone who may not follow the prolife scene might give their comments on Bella, if they go see it.
I think Bella is Academy Award material, but the Actors Guild and other parts of Hollywood is so much a bunch of left wing loonies that I fear Bella will not get a fair shake -- especially since there is prayer in Bella.
>> I was kind of surpised by the ending. But that is a good thing.
So, how does it end?
Just kidding. :-)
But seriously — do you ever wonder how (if) a conservative alternate “center of gravity” to Hollywood could be established? Sort of the “Fox News” of the movie industry — where quality films are made, minus the Hollywood political BS and lascivious dope addict Hollywood stars?
I have no idea how it could ever happen, or where. But I’d sure like to see it. Hollywood /used/ to make decent films, and movie stars /used/ to be patriotic, so I’m sure it’s possible.
There is good news.
Walden Media has produced films of quality in recent years, including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, and Because Of Winn-Dixie.
Amazing Grace, which I'm not sure Walden produced, is another film which was heartily embraced by the evangelical and conservative communities, telling the life story of British Abolitionist William Wilberforce, someone whom many school children in America may not be familiar with due to the dumbing down and Political Correctness found in textbooks purposely utilized by Leftist school boards and Teachers' unions.
...So we can take heart there are those outside of the Hollywood-Malibu-Aspen-Vale circles who are giving American film goers what they really want.
That IS good news.
God bless them and I wish them success!
I liked the Narnia books when I read them twenty years ago (as an adult, believe it or not). Guess I’ll have to check out the movie, too.
That's what made the movie going experience special for me.
Of course Bella will not get a fair shake in Hollywood. Thats clear.
I still think of the opening line, If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.
I will post more info if you are interested...
...Without all of the gore, nudity, and leftist overtones of Steven Speilberg's Amistad, a great deal of truth regarding the abolition of slavery in the British Isles was told with dignity and style. Director Michael Apted should be rewarded for his wonderful helming of this tender and moving film.
But of course, since Grace gives honor and glory to God, the Hollywood establishment won't give him the time of day.
Narnia Fans -- Prince Caspian (Opening in theaters May 16, 2008) -- http://narniafans.com/?id=1266C.S. Lewis Foundation Supports "Bella" Movie
16 Nov 2007 by Paul Martin
The C.S. Lewis Foundation has e-mailed us with their support of the film Bella. I have seen Bella and I can tell you all: it's a great film, worth seeing by any means possible. It is a film that touches your heart and it does so with a very simple grace and elegance. I cannot recommend it enough. Here's the letter from the founder and president of the C.S. Lewis Foundation:
Dear friends,
The following announcement is being forwarded to you out of a sincere desire to do all we can to promote the success of this special film Bella, which is just now opening in theatres across the nation.
As we have learned with such outstanding films as Amazing Grace and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, box office sales in the opening weekend of release are of critical importance in determining the shelf life of a given film. To give this worthy film a boost along the way, Jean and I plan to go see Bella this weekend. It would be enormously helpful to the cause of good film making if you could do likewise, if at all possible, and, in any and all events, pass the word on to your friends so that others might join with us in the effort.
With warmest regards and best wishes of the Thanksgiving season,
Stan

Lions for Lambs has gone from 2,200 theaters to about 1,500 theaters.
Bella is playing at under 500 theaters...
It’s is possible, and it’s happening. A friend of mine is a writer- he just completed a movie with Isaiah Washington- ‘The Least of These’.
I have also met many other Christians in the industry- producers, writers, actors- there’s a counterculture rising.

Thanks again.
This Narnia: Prince Caspian.
...But I will also mark my calendar for Prince Caspian, too.
...A very touching and heartfelt film, making the case for both the Unborn and adoption.
$8.00 was well spent, along with the somewhat over priced popcorn and Raspberry Iced tea. I highly recommend it to those who have not yet seen this beautiful film.
It's definitely good to see there are at least two companies (Roadside and Walden Media) that want to give American families films to watch free of Pixiar animated characters, Nickelodeon cartoon toy promotions, and Hollywood PC nuttiness. As long as I have a few bucks to spare, I will continue to support these two up and coming Christian and Conservative companies, a much needed antidote to the crass commercialism of Tinseltown.
I spent $5 for a matinee showing. Normal price here in Louisiana is only $7
Well worth the price of admission.
I tried to go to a dance place that served drinks (had to be 21).
They would not take my Louisiana Driver's License. They claimed it was a fake ID. The driver's license did not have the state seal on it, which is why they rejected it... Oh well, that is why the movie tickets are so low here... But we definitely have good food in Acadiana (Cajun country of Southwestern Louisiana).
That was one thing that I did not like about Los Angeles -- I found a few good restaurants.
Here in Louisiana, there are some hole-in-the-wall restaurants that have really good food -- even convience stores sometimes have good Po-Boys and other good things...
But I digress...
