Lowe's refuses to call them "Christmas trees," chooses to call them "Family trees"
Dear R J, In an effort to avoid the use of the term "Christmas tree," Lowe's has renamed their Christmas trees and are now calling them "Family trees." In their Holiday 2007 catalog, containing 56 pages of Christmas gifts, Lowe's advertises hundreds of gift items, including scores of "Family trees." In fact, the word "Christmas" only appears two times in the entire holiday catalog. The ads mentioning "Christmas cover only 12 square inches of the 5236 square inches available. Lowe's even has one of their Family trees turned upside down on a stand. We are not sure what the significance of that is. Lowe's evidently did not want to offend any non-Christians, therefore they replaced "Christmas tree" with "Family tree." Of course, if Christians are offended that is evidently ok. An on-line search of Lowe's does reference some "Christmas" items. In fact, a word search of their Web site gives the exact same number 174 of the word "Christmas" as it does the word "holiday." Most of the items mentioning Christmas appear to use the promotional line given by the manufacturer. Their Holiday 2007 catalog features scores of products, including lights, wreaths, trees, and yard decorations. Most people would associate these items with Christmas, but not Lowe's! Except for two obscure references, they refer to everything in their catalog as "holiday." Click here to see the front cover of the catalog and a page featuring their "Family trees" catalog ad.

I’m canceling my Lowe’s card right now. ridiculous!
I won’t be buying my Christmas tree at Lowe’s.
Lowes is unfortunately run by a BDS Liberal. So is Costco.
I still really don’t understand, given that 78% of Americans call themselves Christian, why retailers would want to alienate the vast majority of their shoppers during the time when they make the most money?
Note to self: Do not buy Christmas tree at Lowes.
Well, it looks like Lowe’s needs a good old fashioned “family” BOYCOTT,,,,,,,,,,,,
It’s out of hand. It has been for awhile, but this is just ridiculous.
I don’t shop at Lowe’s. I’m very annoyed by their bi-lingual signage, (the Spanish is in the same type size as English). Doesn’t surprise me that they’d do this with Christmas trees.
would not putting a Christmas tree upside down be like putting a Crucifix upside down, or the American Flag upside down? in essence an offense to all things Christian?
Okay, there’s a line between PC and stupid. You can step over it by accident, or you can take a full on Gred Louganis swan dive into a swamp of dumb like Lowe’s has. If you own Lowe’s I would dump my stock. Not because of this incident, but because this is proof positive the place is being run by someone with the intellect of a navel orange.
Who ever thought I would consider Holiday Trees as a reasonable replacement.
So what’s Home Depots position? If you have a local hardware store use it. We have “Pleasants Hardware” here in Richmond, Va. Little old guys that have been in the biz since they were 15. They say that nasty word “Christmas” a lot and don’t seem too overly embarrassed.
I am going to go down and ask for a Christmas tree. If they point me to the “family trees” I’ll ask where the Christmas trees are. Then I’ll loudly ask why there are no Christmas trees and say I am going to HD where I know they have Christmas trees.
“I still really dont understand, given that 78% of Americans call themselves Christian, “
Half of that 78% are self loathing liberals. So, offending them actually makes them feel better.

I don’t know. The Christmas tree is a secular symbol more than a religious one, I think, like the Easter Bunny at Easter, harmless and fun, but part of a holiday that hristians celebrate as deeply religious as well. Italians don’t really use Christmas trees much, as I understand it they really are into creche’s (manger scenes) in their houses and have some incredible ones, so the tree isn’t a universal Christian symbol like a cross or the icthus. Bottom line is that no one does upside down Christmas trees and it could be intended as an insult by some anti-Christian person or group of people at Lowes.
LOL!
But Lowe’s has better fine lumber!
I needed a new supplier anyway.
(BTW, any confirmation on the truth of this?)
PING. Are you aware of this???
Decorating the family Christmas tree is a tradition enjoyed in thousands of households. Picking out the family tree can be just as enjoyable and is also a holiday custom in many homes.
Whether you shop for a fresh-cut tree each year or choose an artificial version, make it a fun and uncomplicated process. Lowe's is happy to provide this information as a service to you.

"O Tannenbaum, your branches green delight us."
