Yeah, it was pretty scary.
Based on his post-game comments, I can finally agree with Keith Olbermann on something: Travis Johnson is the worst person in the NFL.
If only the O line was better...
It’s amazing how quickly he went from ripping Green to issuing an apology. The Texans PR folks worked fast on that one.
That’s why I don’t bet on the NFL.
Maybe. Mostly I was just being silly with stats. :)
I couldn’t sleep last night, so I turned on the radio to the overnight sports show on FSR. They played a clip of Johnson saying “f*ck Trent Green,” and almost immediately a Texans PR person descended, talked to Johnson, and then Johnson issued the apology.
It’s pretty clear he meant the first statement, not the second.
To be fair, Maroney has a lot of potential, and once he gets past the line he's very good...but he doesn't reliably make it through the first hole, and if the hole isn't there he doesn't pick up anything - even when healthy. I'm not saying he's worthless. He's just not been the go-to guy when you need a few yards, or even just a consistent back...never has been yet no matter what the hype.
Green was not the villain. He was executing a cut block, something every QB in the NFL is coached to do when trying to block a defensive lineman.
It’s legal, and it’s going to stay legal, because the QB, not the DT, suffered the injury here. That’s the key fact: for all of Johnson’s complaining that he could have been injured, he wasn’t. Trent Green, not Travis Johnson, was taken to the hospital. Travis Johnson, not Trent Green, will be playing next week. (Well, maybe; Rex Hadnot and Samson Satele put a little Bart Scott-brand hot sauce on Johnson from then on.)
I was stunned that some in the media have tried to shift blame towards Green. I heard Brady this morning talking about how he tries to execute that same block.
I’m not confusing Maroney with Barry Sanders, I’m just saying he can do well for himself and his team.
Sammy Morris is a good situational guy, but don’t let his games against the Bengals and his 2006 efforts when Ronnie Brown injured his hand fool you. He stuck so long in Miami because he’s a special teams demon, not because he’s a brilliant RB.
Peter King’s MMQB column has a log of a text message exchange between King and Green. Green basically said, “He outweighs me by 100 pounds, how am I supposed to block him?”
Remember, the media hates Miami. They hate the Dolphins, the Heat, the Hurricanes, and even the Marlins. (Killing the Yankees in 2003, and then trading two big Yankee-killers to Boston will do that.) It’s not surprising that some would try to blame Green in this case.
Not to mention the fact that opposing defenses are a bit more concerned with stopping the Pats air attack rather than their ground game.
That was the first column I’ve ever read based on a interview conducted via text messaging.
Yeah, New England’s totally changed their offensive philosophy thanks to Reche Caldwell. You guys would pound the ball as often as possible, and now you’re throwing as often as possible.
I have to say, after the secondary’s performance against Houston (the only reason we lose that game is because our safeties suck) I think Tom Brady won’t have any more difficulty in Dolphin Stadium.
Ain’t technology grand?
They threw the ball a decent amount when they had Branch and Givens as their wide outs.
No need to worry about that. Dallas will have the Pats figured out on both fronts. Dallas and New England are mirror images of each other so far. Our respective opponents have resembled each others’. The big edge next week is that we will have the Pats down in the friendly confines of Texas Stadium. That will be a huge edge to have. Dallas won’t score its’ usual 30-odd points, although I hope they do. Indeed. This will be one of the gut-wrenching nail-biters that’ll go down to the final tick.
Being a Cowboys fan, I hope they snuff them early. I’d love to see Brad Johnson come in and play cleanup. That won’t happen. Tony Romo cna and will make things happen. It promises to be an entertaining game to watch. I wish I could be there to see it firsthand.
