FILM SYNOPSIS
Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate?
Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle International Film Festival, Dan Karslake's provocative, entertaining documentary brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture, and in the process reveals that Church-sanctioned anti-gay bias is based almost solely upon a significant (and often malicious) misinterpretation of the Bible. As the film notes, most Christians live their lives today without feeling obliged to kill anyone who works on the Sabbath or eats shrimp (as a literal reading of scripture dictates).
Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopalian Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.
And further, a majority of Christians are not the “God hates Fags” sign wavers. The majority simply see the act for what it is, an act of defiance in the face of a loving God. We just say it and they assume it equals hate. I havent seen the movie but I do notice that they don’t list in the credits anyone who is a pastor that actually follows the Bible and refutes what the film is trying to say. They dont want to show a normal pastor b/c it doesnt fit, they want to show the Fred Phelps guy who coordinates the God hates fags stuff. A rational person can see the difference between concern/conviction and hate.
I understand your point, but I don't believe we are quite that far gone. Again, remember I'm talking about the United States, not Western Europe (in which case I'd concede the argument).
Yes, it is true that compared to 30+ years ago, society today is more acceptant to what was understood to be wrong (aka, sin).
But even today, no matter how much Hollywood glorifies it, people know adultery is wrong. People know pornography is wrong (its peddled in 'discreet' venues, and generally hidden - because of the shame factor).
I'll have to concede that the pre-marital sex battle is mostly lost, but at some level I believe that most people understand that it is not right.
God has implanted HIS law on our hearts (even that of the heathens), and people understand that sin is wrong. I can't disagree with you that society as a whole has become more callused about these matters and busily spends its energies trying to bury the concept of sin -- but I believe the shame factor still exists today. You aren't going to see any parades celebrating the aforementioned sins. By and large they take place 'in the dark'.
The irony about man's state is that as a whole they take God's Commandments as being 'restrictive'. The reality is that they were given to us in love, and its when we deviate from them - in either thought or deed - we lose our peace and go into downward spirals. I can't think of truer words than that spoken of in 1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep HIS commandments: and HIS commandments are not grievous.
Yes, most Christians feel the need to kill homosexuals?? I guess my preacher didn't get the message from the seminary.
That battle was never fought. Hetero relations are the norm.
Yes. Queers, straight folks living in sin and incest either forced or willing.....I’d say that’s all abominable.
“Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families — including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopalian Bishop Gene Robinson...”
HAhahahaha...
Lost me right there...Robinson is a faggot, adulterer and the author wants me to believe his interpretation of the Bible?
I don’t think so.
right, I believe you would be hard pressed to find a normal congregation anywhere that advocates killing gay folks. As disgusting as it may be, no one is trying to off them. Further, if anyone did kill some homos in under the guise of Christianity, he would be denounced so fast by actual Christians it wouldnt even be funny.
If I could find no other intellectual reason to oppose leftists but they fact that they feel obliged to use these tactics, that would be enough to reject their ideas.

well i’ve been blocked from the comments section at the youtube trailer. shocking, they are so open minded and all that I really expected some open discourse there.
Interesting, isn’t it, that liberal churches are completely ignoring heterosexual sex and only promoting homosexuality.
Honor thy father and thy father.
Of all the Biblical cities, there is only speculation about the sites of Sodom and Gommorah.
With the rest, at least ruins have been found.
