OK, I have a question for Friday night amusement.
I went to get cat food out of the pantry for my kitty and it wasn't sealed properly so hundreds of ants got in it. I didn't want to throw it away so I decided to nuke them. I set it on high for 30 seconds. They went crazy but still alive. I repeated, still alive. I tried 1 minute, still alive. Another minute, still alive. (This is a brand new Mocrowave) In total, 7 1/2 minutes. The bag melted and some of the ants were sitll alive! I think they may take over the world.

Next time put the crawling mess in your freezer and take it out on trash day. That’s what I do.

Does it land on its feet like a cat?

You should have placed the cat food bag in a plastic bag and tied it shut and put it in the freezer for a while.

Even better and less use of chemicals. Get a sprayer bottle and mix about 1 part regular dish soap to 10 parts water. stir gently. Spray directly on ants. They crawl about 1/2 inch and die. Then just wipe clean.
Or you can use an aerosol can and a lighter to make a flamethrower. If you do it for long enough there isn't anything left to wipe up.

Are you suggesting that it was really high velocity ants from deep space that killed the dinosaurs?

There once was a FReeper with ants
In the cat food, not in her pants
So to send them to heaven
Tried to nuke them on seven
To her amazement she found that you can’t!

You could just get a can of ether and put it in the microwave with the ants but that's just overkill.

If the kitty already finished it try giving him beans. At least you’ll have your own personal furry bubble machine.

Yes I am. And it could happen again. Unless.........unless we could figure out a way to shoot microwaves into space and kill them before they get to us......but their dead bodies would still come down in a storm of flames. I guess we're doomed.

You need a couple more ingredients. I use this on my vegies and roses.
2 jalapenos and 6 cloves of garlic with 1/2 cup very hot water. Blend in a food processor. Drain through a fine strainer. Drain 2 more time through a coffee filter. (This is so it won't plug up your sprayer. Pour into sprayer, add 3 T ivory soap, fill with hot water. Nothing lives.

Yeah. I was going to suggest tossing a fork or a ball of foil in there with it.

“furry bubble machine.”
Sounds like way more fun than nuking ants doesn’t it? Imagine the stream of little bubbles when she purrs!

The typical ant is less than 1/10th wavelength at the frequency used in microwaves.(at 2500 mHz w/l = 4.72 inches)
An antenna of 1/10th wavelength will only have a very minute current in it.
To confirn this I just put a piece of sliced turkey sandwich meat, about the size of an ant into my microwave, supported by a plastic container so that it was away from any metal.
After one minute the turkey meat was still as cool as when I took it out of the refrigerator.
