ATLANTA (AP) -- A doctor who examined brain matter from former pro wrestler Chris Benoit is saying the wrestler had brain damage from multiple concussions that was consistent with what's seen in Alzheimer's patients.
Doctors say the damage from years in the ring may have been a leading cause for Benoit killing his wife, children and himself at their Atlanta-area home in June.
The Sports Legacy Institute, an organization that advances health and wellness of athletes, coordinated the testing using samples of Benoit's brain tissue provided by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, with the permission of Benoit's father.

I do know well gone people with brain disorders forget who they are, who it is seeing them and can bite among other things.
I guess it is possible for sure.
Happening over the period of time like it did seemed real strange to me though.
Yeah, I don’t know about it being the “cause”. I think a lot of things led to it. I’m sure all the shots he took didn’t help. But there had been rumors about the marriage for a long time. Some men will literally flip out if the woman is about to leave him. The rumor is that was about to happen. We will never know for sure exactly what happened or everything that led to it. I don’t buy “he was brain damaged”, “The End”. Although he probably did have some as many of them likely do. Chris Nowinski had to leave wrestling because of head injuries. But I think there was a fight that clearly crossed the line. If she was bound & beaten, there’s a lot of anger in that. This sounds a lot like people trying to take the blame off of Chris. Even if I stretch my imagination to think Chris killed Nancy accidentally, Daniel’s murder was not an accident. Chris went off the deep end. That may have had less to do with losing brain function than just losing his temper.
Makes more sense.
Chris Nowinski was really pushing hard for them to investigate the concussion/head trauma angle in regards to Chris Benoit. This will only embolden his cause, even though there was no direct link proven.
Interesting. Even though I hated the “Tough Enough” concept, I hated for that to happen. I thought he really had some potential. But the way wrestlers are ending up these days it may have been a blessing in disguise.
I think it was his steroid use more than anything else.
Not according to the tox report, which is why the MSM dropped this story like a microwaved apple turnover..although they are covering this latest story about the brain damage/concussion connection.
The numbers are staggering. It’s common unfortunately. I figure there will be at least another one before Thanksgiving. Too many deaths before their time.
BTW, anyone know if Sherri’s autopsy report has ever been released?
Thanks for the confirmation of the numbers Sue. I really don’t know about Sherri’s autopsy report though.
Take care.
Thanks for the ping
WWE Hall of Famer Sensational Sherri Martel died of an accidental overdose with multiple drugs in her system, according to recently released medical reports from homicide investigators in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Martel, 49, died June 15 at her mother's home near Birmingham, Ala. Initially, police confirmed Martel did not die of natural causes, but foul play was not suspected.
Toxicology reports revealed large amounts of oxycodone, a drug used in the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain. It is addictive.
Dang. I was hoping it would be some form of natural causes. Looks like another name gets added.
Thanks
