RJ's Famous NFL Picks, Week One

Atlanta (7-9) at Minnesota (6-10) - 1:00 PM

The Falcons missed the playoffs last year by losing their final three games. And now they've lost noted animal-lover and PETA spokesman Michael Vick for 12 to 60 months due to a self-inflicted injury. Vick will be replaced at QB by the lovable Joey Harrington, who won't throw for many touchdowns, but he won't be flipping off the home crowd/spreading herpes/killing dogs with his bare hands, either. The Falcons are going to need their defense to overachieve and RB Warrick Dunn to rush for 1,500+ yards just to avoid losing double-digit games this season.

The Minnesota Vikings started out 4-2 last season, only to lose eight of their last ten games and (obviously) miss the playoffs. QB Brad Johnson was released in the off-season, so the unproven Tarvaris Jackson will be starting under center. The Vikes will need a strong season out of RB Chester Taylor in order to put many points on the board. The defense should be better-than-average.

PICK: I predict an ugly, low-scoring game. Overtime is a possibility, with an interception/fumble return for a TD providing the final score. (Sylvia Browne ain't got nothin' on me.) VIKINGS BY 6.

The Chicago Bears had the best defense in the NFC last season, by a mile.

Yeah, for the first four weeks of the season.

And then in week 5, they won the MIRACLE game in Arizona thanks to Brian Urlacher!!! . But they lost Mike Brown, then Tommie Harris later on, for the season, and it went downhill from there. With those two, they would have beaten the Colts, even with Sex-ah Rex-ah!!!

Da Bears.

No, it has more to do with Ron Rivera never making adjustments after teams figured out what he was doing.

Going 13-3 is a testament to the crappiness of the NFC in general, the NFC North in particular. It’s not a testament to the supposed dominance of the Bears’ defense in 2006.

Got news for ya pal, blondes jiggling on the sidelines have yet to score even ONE point, and Coach Landry is still dead.

But this guy isn't!

Yeah, and hopefully for more than one game. LOL

Hey, you can bet the rent that Joe Gibbs is at least thanking his lucky stars that he didn’t accept the offer of the head coaching job at Atlanta after Dan Reeves got fired, or else he would be the one dealing with all the Michael Vick fallout...

Did you notice that in listing the new defensive players that the Redskins picked up he include Dallas Sartz who isn’t on the team anymore?

I just watched the Superbowl on NFL Channel. Rex threw a pick for a touchdown and singlehandedly turned a 2nd and 1 into 4th and 20 something by falling down and fumbling. I think the score would have been exactly the same no matter who played on your D.

And that is why Ron Rivera was given the - heave-ho, see ya, don't let the door hit ya.

Him and his &^#%$%@*ing 'Cover 2' made Urlacher - the fastest, most mobile ML in football - literally invisible.

(yeah Lovie likes the Cover 2 also, but not how Rivera used it)

Three things killed Da Bears.

  1. Rex GROSSman
  2. Rex GROSSman
  3. Rex GROSSman
  4. Rex GROSSman
    And...
  5. Rex GROSSman
Oops that's 5 things.
'Series', Having Tommy Harris and Mike Brown out hurt more than anything. THEN that bonehead Ron Rivera and his version of the Cover 2 was 100% FUBAR. Lastly - GROSSman.

Back in the 'olden days' Da Bears had a QB named Jack Concannon who was laughed off Da Bears pretty much for one messed up snap (it went over his head) - which made blooper highlights for years. YET &*#%%^$* GROSSman is still here - go figure.

An aside, back in the 1990's Jack hung out at the same Lounge I did in Arlington Heights. A very nice guy, drank a little too much maybe (guess we all did there). He's dead now. Died at 62.
