TUCSON, Ariz. A Mrs. America contestant from Tennessee spent about 15 hours in a hospital here after being bitten by a rattlesnake at a hotel.
Christina Ryan of Franklin said she caught sight of a spider on an outside staircase at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort while walking to a rehearsal last Sunday morning for this weekends competition.
She jumped away from it and a rattlesnake bit her right foot, just above her toe.
As time went on, Ryan said the pain got worse. She spent about 15 hours in the hospital and received 10 vials of antivenin before being released.
Ryan said shes working on walking in heels on the swollen foot.
Interviews for the Mrs. America contestants will be held Saturday with preliminary competition Sunday and the finals on Sept. 5.

Maybe she should have stomped the spider instead.
She cannot win for losing. This is creepy!
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
The spiders and snakes may be organizing!
“Step into my parlor”, said the spider to Mrs. Tennessee.
She got off easy
“Some countries don’t have snakes ... like, ummm, the Ireland, and South Africa. So, like, I think we need to work on and such, South Africa and ... and that’s what I think.”
These beaty-pageant contestants aren’t very smart. There are easier ways to get one’s name in the papers. ;)
She’s walking in heels with her foot like that? It must have barely nicked her or it had recently used it vemon on something else. I’ve seen whole legs swell up like watermelons for days after a rattlesnake bite.

I was spinning off the other Beauty Contest girl a few days ago who was asked why one-fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a map, and who somehow managed to center her answer on South Africa.
When I was 6 I attended a birthday party in the backyard of one of our neighbors in El Paso. While playing in the yard in the early evening a little girl the same age stepped on a rattler, and it was horrible to watch. Her leg turned as blue as my jeans, and swelled unbelieveably. As long ago as that was I still remember it vividly. The little girl did recover but was badly scarred from the bite.
And here I thought that beauty queen contestants were the pinnacle of American intellectualism :<)
Beside the point observation: Isn’t the mere existence of a “Mrs. America” pageant more than a little strange? There doesn’t seem to be much point beyond the obvious “milf” connotations.
The spider was in cahoots with the snake. It was a classic bait and switch variant called the scare and rattle scam.
