“Spielbergs WOTW was a terrific piece of filmmaking and caught the spirit of the Wells text quite well.”
I agree. I think some people see “Tom Cruise” and say a film is dreck. One of the things about the way Wells framed the story was a disconnected society, and especially the main character roving from place to place trying to survive. There is a nomadic fog over the whole story, and Speilburg hit it just right, IMHO.
I thought Cruise did well, also my IMHO. YMMV.

LOL! My mom was a Jeff Chandler fan. She liked big men such as my father. Since I live in Chandler, AZ, I figured it was a natural screen name.

Re:
We watched The Day the Earth Stood Still about a year ago. I spent the first half an hour shocked...
shocked at how much my husband...
resembles Michael Rennie. Hummmmmmmmmmmm...
are you sure about your husband? Ya know, I've never seen him and Michael Rennie together!
Saw your hubby yesterday and he was getting real cozy...
with Patricia Neal!
I think we should get some revenge...
at my pad about 7ish!

Why cannot Hollywood do some original classic sci-fi works from Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov or Authur C. Clarke...
look at what they did with asimov's work in "I robot" or with any of Dick's stuff ("bladerunner," "total recall," "minority report," "paycheck.." altho "imposter" was pretty good, the others were pretty bad.) look at the abomination they made of gibson's "johnny mneumonic."
i'm not sure i'd WANT to see anymore original sci-fi movies- at least, not ones that's i've already read.

If you watch "2001" then "2010", you'll be hard pressed to believe that the latter movie is a SEQUEL to the former.

Ever see the so-called “Isaac Asimov’s Nightfall”?
It is arguably the worst adaptation of the written word to the silver screen, ever.

if we are talking about the same book?
Re #2: I thought Cruise did well, also my IMHO.
Now, I am wondering, IMHO...
are we talking about the same Tom Cruise?
Just remember...
make sure Spielberg & Toms checks clears before shouting their praises...

It is arguably the worst adaptation of the written word to the silver screen, ever.Only because "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" was only shown on TV.
