He sleeps with my step-son and if he is not here then life is almost unbearable.
Last week my step-son left for work and returned home. When he got here Ranger was no where to be seen.
A few phone calls located him in Lowell AR on the other side of I540. Fortunately someone had seen him on this side and called animal control. The officer told my son the when he pulled up and opened his door that Ranger jumped in ready to go.
This is the smartest dog I have ever owned. He can open the front door if he wants (Closing it it is yet to come.)
I would apprereciatre any help from hard headed dobie owners.

Oh and start crate-training the dog.
I am having trouble here. Step son goes to work but grand parents buy him a dog???

One thing to know about the breed is that they are pretty fragile (both physically and emotionally) as puppies. Dobies really get attached to their people and aren't happy until they are right with them (in contact with them). If you yell at him or hit him, it can make him skittish or anxious for life. This isn't some pop-psychology BS. Read up on the breed and dobes as puppies.
These little guys can be difficult as pups, but they grow into one of the smartest and most loyal dogs you will ever have.
Good luck. They're only puppies once, and then you'll just remember how cute they were.
My dobies.
Bingo. And then these precious pups from the breed of peace are adopted by some optimistic, open-minded family. They don't realize their folly until a neighborhood granny or their own toddler is torn to a bloody pulp. BOPMA.
Now back to the the original topic, Dobies.
I was.
Boy kicks meth on his own, gets a job, keeps it, makes his own car payments and insurance, gets his GED and 15 hrs of college AND SAYS he wants to serve his country by joining the military ( he wants to go Marines).....still got a problem???? If so, I'll give him your address.
Tell him I’m real proud of him...!!!!
Thanks BG! I’ll pass it along.
Lives in your home, ask your permision for a dog, you say no, and grandparents buy him a dog anyways???? Yeah, I got a problem with that. Either you do or do not run your house. Kicks meth?? Just how old is he? The dog runs loose and somebody else calls animal control??? Yeah, I got problems with it.
Sorry you lose again. Thanks for playing.
Be sure and enter again at iwishmylifedidntsuck.com
This is the smartest dog I have ever owned.............. Funny, I thought you said the dog belonged to your stepson??? If your gonna air your laundry, expect others to ask about the stains.
Whoa! You got me there genius. How's relationship with Mr Catfish working out for ya? Who got custody of the stinkbait?

You’re right, however after generations of creation of this breed, it no longer belongs in a civil society. It is a working breed that cannot be trusted with children.
Maybe, someday again but the breed must change.
Dob’s BTW are in the same category - they are working guard dogs and cannot be around children.
/now, I’ll don the flame suit, thanks for testing it.
Well, good on him! Meth is horrible. Some older folks that we know adopted a rescued Dobie. He’s pretty shy.
I wish my son could join up. He’s 4-H, and his hair is so long, he looks like a cross between Jim Morrison and Keith Richards. He doesn’t do Meth, thank God! I wish he could get a job, though.
Your stepson’s grandparents are very cool :)
Have you ever thought about taking your son to a barber and making him get his hair cut, or is he to old for that?
