He sleeps with my step-son and if he is not here then life is almost unbearable.
Last week my step-son left for work and returned home. When he got here Ranger was no where to be seen.
A few phone calls located him in Lowell AR on the other side of I540. Fortunately someone had seen him on this side and called animal control. The officer told my son the when he pulled up and opened his door that Ranger jumped in ready to go.
This is the smartest dog I have ever owned. He can open the front door if he wants (Closing it it is yet to come.)
I would apprereciatre any help from hard headed dobie owners.
Bad pit bulls are created by bad owners. /dons flame suit
Oh and start crate-training the dog.
I am having trouble here. Step son goes to work but grand parents buy him a dog???

One thing to know about the breed is that they are pretty fragile (both physically and emotionally) as puppies. Dobies really get attached to their people and aren't happy until they are right with them (in contact with them). If you yell at him or hit him, it can make him skittish or anxious for life. This isn't some pop-psychology BS. Read up on the breed and dobes as puppies.
These little guys can be difficult as pups, but they grow into one of the smartest and most loyal dogs you will ever have.
Good luck. They're only puppies once, and then you'll just remember how cute they were.
My dobies.
You are smart to have avoided pits. My nephew has one, and I will longer go to his house even to visit with my other nephews. My nephew think it is not a dangerous dog. It was jumping on me once and told him to get down. He stood back and snarled at me with intense eyes, and he sounded exactly like the Rabid Kojo on the prowl. I thought he was going to come at me...and I tried to tell my younger nephew(Not the one who’s dog it is to grab the dog so I could get away. He tried but the Dog snapped at him and almost bit him too. He then let go and told me he was afraid of the dog too. their mother finally grabbed the dog, and I have never been back since. My younger nephew has asked me to stop by. I say sorry-no can do. Blame your older brother. The first time you get them mad then look out.
Then there was this lady who lives out in the woods and has foxes and other wild animals living in her house. So she is just kooky about animals. She was there once and she saw the dog and looked in its eyes. She then told my brother to get the dog away from her because it was and evil dog. These dogs have an instinct that is just waiting for a reason to come out. That instinct is to kill. Don’t mess with it.
This may sound like an urban legend, but a good friend of mine had a Dobie that did nothing but cry and whine all day (based on reports from neighbors) while my friend was away at work, the answer?
My friend recorded a 6 hour VCR tape of him and his Dobie playing, running around, eating, bathing, all of that, and turned on the VCR as he went out the door each morning, came home at lunch time to rewind and start the tape up again, came home in the evening to a contented Dobie.
Your mileage (or Dobie) may vary. ;)
I have had several over the years and Rotts too....love them both.
I like Pits as well but many folks don’t....never owned one though....I hear they are hell on chewable stuff.
My last Dobie was magnificent and proved himself over and over as a loyal family protector
vigilant, crafty, fearless and never ever snapped at toddlers........and never ever whined and acted anything less than noble
only I dog I ever had out of 8 in my life who would not rollover and let you rub his belly...a very dominant fella
plus....never clip a protector male dog....if that is what you want...get a bitch
fwiw...separation anxiety
Ping.
