Computers are the sine qua non of the modern age, therefore this ping. Comments are most welcome!
My wife’s computer came with Vista and it seems to be running just fine. Of course she isn’t what you’d call a power user. I dual-boot XP and linix and I’ve found linix to be far inferior to XP. If he’s so frustrated with Vista the Editor should go back to XP.
Probably failed to run the Vista Update Tool before he installed the program. I fixed the problems it warned me about and have had few problems and no desire to go back to XP.
Ouch!! Sooner or later Microsoft has to fix it, but in the meantime they are losing fans.
I like Vista.
Maybe I’m easily pleased seeing as I upgraded from Windows 98SE.
This guy’s in the wrong business. Vista is unnecessarily cumbersome out of the box, but it’s not THAT hard. This guy should maybe go into the livestock feed business.
I’ve got 1 machine running Vista Business Edition on a small home office network with a Windows Server 2003, and 4 other PC’s running XP Pro. The networking on the Vista machine is horrible—10 to 100 times slower than the XP machines. The hardware on this Vista machine is the 2nd best of all my PC’s, so it’s not the hardware.
Almost none of my main applications I use for my business will run under Vista, so why did I buy Vista? Uhhh... it’s pretty?
Note to others: Window Blinds makes XP almost as pretty as Vista, so save your money.
I have linux (ubuntu) and if you’re going to be bothered by Vista...trust me, you won’t want to put up with linux. It’s good for what it’s good for but it’s not good for people expecting a totally polished OS.
I would think that this guy, easier than most people, would be able to see the obvious:
It's the "protected Content" overhead.
And since that's embedded and woven throughout the entire OS, and that's the reason I will never even attempt to load VISTA onto any of my computers.
My thought is:
This guy does nothing but work with computers and operating systems.
What is going to happen to a semi- computer literate person like me?
My son is a tech. He advised that Vista will not let you download “Add-Ons” (Every now and then, you get a page that says:”To view this, you must download ___”)
UNLESS the download has been licensed by Microsoft.
I have an XP machine and a Vista machine. I can’t network them, I can’t share a printer, all kinds of little things don’t work with Vista, it sucks.
I’d install XP over it immediately if I could.
I’m running XP, and I see no compelling reason to upgrade to Vista. And I’m a tech geek.

I read down through the comments, gentlemen, and I respectfully submit that you should try a Mac for a hassle free computer. I dropped MS with the second version of Windows 98.
My grandmother is running Windows 3.1 ... still ..... of course she’s not on the Internet but doesn’t want it ....
On new desktop I just put together for home use ........ I use dual OS of Vista and XP Pro...... I have smaller / older desktops I used Ubuntu (linux) OS w/ open office. Those with Linux OS are screamers for just surfing the net and e-mail etc etc ....
The Vista OS is in dire need of tweeks that little Billy Gates seems to have forgotten. We don’t use it , but we have it. My bad spend of 2007 thus far !
Stay safe !
I’m running Max OSX 10.4.10 and I see no compelling reason to downgrade to Vista.

Google = Linux. Better sell your Microsoft. The party’s over.
