My wife’s computer came with Vista and it seems to be running just fine. Of course she isn’t what you’d call a power user. I dual-boot XP and linix and I’ve found linix to be far inferior to XP. If he’s so frustrated with Vista the Editor should go back to XP.

My experience of Linux was for years similar to yours; it was definitely "expert-friendly" -- though installing it on old and slow machines was not something to make it look good.

Kubuntu 6.10 was very close, for me Kubuntu 7.04 has pulled ahead -- though after a few months with XP at work I am not unhappy with it either. Just a couple of annoyances, and they're probably fixed by a setting somewhere I have not found yet.

Sounds like you’re using some ancient version of Linux. Ubuntu is enough to make most people forget about the msoft world.

Alot of new laptops don't support XP - I'm in the market for a new laptop now, and I want it with XP.

I have a ‘free upgrade’ for Vista for my laptop, should I even bother to get it? I am heavely into graphics and on the computer all the time.

Just don’t know much about it and am happy with XP on my desktop computer.

What differences did you find between XP and Linux?

Simply saying one is inferior to the other would be like saying:

I drive both a Toyota Camry and a truk, and I've found the truk to be far inferior to the Camry.
Depending on what you're doing, what matters to you, and which truck (I intentionally misspelled truck, mimic'ing your misspelling of Linux), there could be widely diverse answers as to why you preferred the car over the truck. A blanket, categorical "inferior" labeling doesn't tell us much.

“If he’s so frustrated with Vista the Editor should go back to XP.”

If he can. I recent bought a HP Medea Center PC with Vista. Naturally, my wireless setup wouldn’t work with it, so I decided to slap XP on there. Come to find out, HP nor the mainboard manufacturer make any drivers for XP, or so they claim. Basically, MS was HP’s customer on that deal and I was just some 3rd party patsy. The PC went back to the store and I got my money back.

I hold numerous MS certifications and have worked on Microsoft products professionally since ‘98. Vista appears to have been designed for 90-year-old paranoid women. It is crap and will never be installed on any of my PCs.
