Brought back memories of my toy tommy gun from the 60’s. I could go through a whole roll of caps in no time and generate a big cloud of smoke.

Great find! Brought back memories of the smell of caps, lol. Just sent the links to my two brothers who used to have Lone Ranger costumes.

Just think. If Mattel sold them today a kid could say “Eat lead” and mean it.

One of my earliest toys that I remember was an old shotgun that my dad had thoroughly disabled by driving a wooden dowel down the barrel and removing the trigger mechanism.

I’m a member of the last “cap gun” generation. I started elementary school about the time Ronald Reagan was elected. When I was a kid, every toy section of every store had cap guns. By the time I graduated high school, you couldn’t find a cap gun if you tried. I can still remember the smell — kind of acrid, but still a great smell. Sometimes we’d stack up a bunch of caps and hit them with a hammer. Lots of fun.

I thought I had a happy childhood until I saw that Fanner 50 cap gun commercial. BooHoo! I didn't even know those existed until now ... I want to go back in time!

I still have my Silver Pony and this cap shooter ... delightful memories. THX for posting lowbie. Nice!

Thankfully they made enough 'good noise' without caps, or we'd forever been scavenging pop bottles for caps as kids.

It seemed we were always playing 'Army', (dirt clod grenades (NO ROCKS!), etc.)

We did have a problem with breaking the end of the barrel off for some reason...

I recognized Hal Smith also. The voiceover sounded a lot like him, too.

My mom didn’t allow any of her five daughters to have cap guns. So we bought the cap rolls and banged on them with rocks to make them go off.

I’m sure that was MUCH safer than a cap gun...

One Christmas I scored big time. I got the Hopalong Cassidy outfit that included hat, shirt, wrist cuffs, pants, boots and twin holster rig with two silver Hoppy pistols.

I remember the sound and smell of those shots as I fanned my pistols and brought the bad guys down!

Wow! The juvenile homicide rate must have been MUCH higher then. Now, toy guns are considered for bans and you can’t get caps any more. We must be safer.

I bet you looked terrific. Did you have chaps? Sometimes my brothers would let me play with them and I pretended to be Annie Oakley. They’d let me have ONE measly roll of caps. Nothing like the smell of caps!

No Chaps. I remember that I always hung my stuff carefully in the closet. Dad had put a hook on the wall for my hat and guns!

I remember the summer after I received the outfit that I went to the Library. I was fully dressed and when I got to there the Librarian made me take off my spurs.

I was only 7 but when I got on the bus to ride back to my house the bus driver made me sit in the front seat since I was going to be his guard. Yeehah!

Those were the days. I showed the c ommercials to my 20 year old daughter and she was SHOCKED!!! Toy guns on tv of all things. She kept asking me if they were a joke and I assured her they were the real thing and her uncles had toy boxes full of them when they were kids.
