In an interview at this years Comic Con, director Joss Whedon talked about the Collectors Edition Serenity DVD and a possible big screen sequel. Here are just a few snippets of that interview:
So after all is said and done, was Serenity profitable? Do you consider it a success?
Joss Whedon (JW): Its a success to the studio or else we wouldnt be doing a special edition DVD. They actually admitted as much on paper, which you know studios are loathe to do, and that was actually from the theatrical. Theatrical was a disappointment, as everyone knows, but it did go into the black. Then the DVD came and they took me aside and said We cant keep these things on the shelf. We want to do a special edition. And I didnt want to hear that because I knew it would have to be a truly special edition to make me happy. There had to be a real reason, some real goodies.
So what will the special edition have for us?
JW: We took some stuff from the region two version; the making of a really beautiful one thats a bit longer. It has the first read through for the movie with the cast, two years after the show ended. And it has the River Tam sessions, the stuff I did on the internet with Summer. We got to do another commentary too, Nathan, Summer, Ron and Adam I made sure it didnt go the same direction as the first commentary. It feels like this version will be something more for the people who would tend to buy both.

Thanks for posting this...now if only he wouldn’t have killed Wash and Book off in the BDM.....
Well, that'll teach me not to look into threads about shows/movies I'm kinda interested in checking out... :(
Check out the complete TV series on DVD. Well worth twenty bucks.
All I have to say is the fact the sci-fi channel carries ‘who wants to be a super hero’ and did not pick up serenity nearly makes me sick!
For anyone who has not seen serenity because they have not seen firefly its *OK* to see the movie first you dont need the background as JW did a fantastic job telling the story. My wife and I saw serenity before firefly and were so taken by it that we immeaditally rented the firefly dvd’s..
Aside from b5 best sci fi ever, perhaps if it would have been given some time to arc or develop it would have been better...
I’m sorry! :( I should have thought of that. The series Firefly is excellent and worth every cent. I’m annoyed with the movie Serenity. I thought Joss Whedon squandered his fans trust, but others disagree. Again, sorry for the spoiler.
Vor, stoart post like this with **Spoiler** I know the movie is old but many have not seen it..
Vor,
I good story has death, Joss delivered a fantastic movie!
Don’t fret - they’ll recoup their losses from ‘Superhero’ by running 5 straight hours of ‘Ghost Hunter’.
(Of course, it’ll only be 1 hour, after the 4 hours of commercials are factored in....Bowflex, anyone?)
Thanks, it’s late (for me) and I wasn’t thinking.... My bad. :(
Dude...The movie’s two years old. “Spoiler laws” cease about six months after release.
Dude, who said anything about spoiler laws? I wasn't blaming anyone but myself. Chill.
No apologies necessary--I'm responsible.
I have seen a couple of eps but not many. I guess I just haven't gotten into the swing of the show, and will have to do one of those weekend-long viewings of the series and the movie from beginning to end.
I was a huge Farscape fan, but felt it collapsed in the final season. It made a great comeback in the miniseries, though. I hear they're considering a web-only series related to Farscape.
It’s science fiction. There are ways to bring them back to life:)
or show classic movies such as Savage Planet..
My God.....it’s full of....bears.
LOL!!! Maybe I’m expecting too much from the Sci-Fi channel...
Personally I think Firefly could have overtake Babylon 5 as one of top Sci-Fi shows..
