The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Oh, that yarn is vey nice!! Before we got married, SirKit made a Hope Chest for me out of some redwood his Dad had left over from a job site. As a matter of fact, I keep my embroidery and crochet things in it. I made a HUGH afghan for him that was basically black, with variegated colored zig zags in it. That’s the only blanket I’ve made for him, but we did have it on our bed for the longest time.

I’ve crocheted for years, but have never learned to knit. Next time the homeschool Moms get together, I’m going to bring my needles and yarn along and get my friend Rosemary to teach me.

Sounds like a good idea; are you planning on finding some hickory trees in the perfect village and do mid-nite raid with hatchet in hand or growing them from scratch? :-)

Thought I might scope out the trees on the walk route...maybe do a little volunteer sidewalk clearing.

‘Course I could always get used to oak smoke....

Well, we will keep our eyes open around here for ‘opportunities’. Come to think about I’ll be there are some on g’nad’s place. Bit of a drive, though.

The only problem is that woodpiles attract termites. I might just be better off getting storebought.

Looks like the pig is done. Gotta heat up some greens as a side dish.

MSNBC has true murder stories on on Sunday, today talked about the murder of colorful GOP politician Cathy Augustine, Nevada State Controller, about 2 years ago. She was murdered by her husband, using that paralytic drug we discussed a bit back, so if you want details about it just google that case.

For those of you who write murder mysteries, you can get a lot of interesting details reading about the real thing.

I definitely need to write that down for future reference. ;-) I’m ending up not using the poison type method just because it’s crucial to the story that a framing take place, and that’s easier when there’s more physical evidence than is really possibly in a poisoning. But for another story...hm.

OK, transcribed today’s words, and I’m ahead of where we *have* to be to be on-schedule, so I think I’ll go read for awhile...

I wish I had BBQ pig, though. *snif*

I do have garlic Havarti cheese, though. Mmm...cheese.

Okay, got the spreadsheet ready to track electricity use this winter and find out how much more (or less) it’s going to cost me to run that oil-filled radiator in thesunroom this winter. Last winter I was running a space heater when I was home and not sleeping. I’ve got the thing set at a constant 78 degrees. It stays in the 70’s during the day and it’s around 68 (according to the thermometer on the wall) in the morning.

Well, that should prove to be an interesting study. We have ours set up with the timers to go on in the late evening and early morning, otherwise it’s off. We like ours, takes the chill off the room and is quiet.

The one I’ve got is refurbished and I’ve never been able to set the second timer. I just leave it at medium power set at 78. I sure warms the room up better than a space heater. For October I used 27 more kWh than I did in October 2006.

Sounds like it’s worth it, it keeps you, the cat and the plants comfortable.

We don’t have a thermostat on ours, just the timers and the two settings, (one red light and two red lights). Works for us.

Yeah, I’ve got a thermostat, power level settings, and supposedly two timers but I’ve been able to set only one. Oh well. I guess I only need the thermostat anyway. Without heat it’s down in the thirties on winter mornings. I think the plants would like 68 a lot better.
