Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I DO have a title = “Bonefinder” - been having a hellacious time thinking of a plot that would fit...LOL
Embrace imperfection. It’s a must for NaNo purposes. ;-)
It’s all part of the experience!
Okay - so what if one of your characters is in the military...and you know DIDDLYSQUAT about the military...do you still write him as such? Or at least, EX military turned...erm...mercenary? Im thinking someone either in K&R or POWs...
I was permanently warped by having to use a manual typewriter in high school. But I had seen the first of the IBM Selectrics, and swore I'd get one before starting college. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I could only afford the narrow-carriage model at $460, which was about two months wages and commissions from my summer job selling sporting goods at a local, long-gone department store chain. I didn't do too well with most of the product lines, but I knew more about cameras (sold in the sporting goods department) and guns than anybody else, so that's where I made my money.
I liked the feel of the keys, and the pop-pop sound of the typeball. Having a math symbol ball made for some classy output, and since there was no carriage in the traditional sense, I could keep a bottle of pop next to it without having to worry about knocking it over.
Hey gonna catch y’all on the flip side...gotta get up early in the mornin...
Hobbit Holers are such useful people to know!
Well...to begin with, just writing something gives it a sense of authority, even if you’re actually wrong. ;-)
And as Rose said, a lot of the time, it’s just a matter of talking to folks who *do* know, and who are happy to explain things!
Except, as I keep sayin’ and sayin’, we really need a couple of doctors and a lawyer or two around here. *sigh*
The 3000 is much nicer. It has basket shift instead of carriage shift, for one, for those who like the geekier details...
I'd like to play with a Selectric someday. But the hum kind of scares me...
Heh...I should note that the Smith-Corona I had when I was little was kind of a late-model cheapie rather than one of their more serious models, and I *still* wouldn’t mind owning an older Smith-Corona...
Time passes slowly along the Withywindle...
Welcome back!
For those of us approaching 50 and beyond, that's not very funny.
I'm just sayin' is all.
Hey, congrats! Always good to have more insane people!
My only advice is make sure you always hit your daily goal for word count (even if your goal for a particular day is less than 1666, which is the daily average) and be sure to know what you are going to write when you sit down on November 1. November 2 can take care of itself but it really helps to know your opening paragraphs.
Maybe it’s like the Borg...you will assimilate. Or IT from “A Wrinkle in Time”.
Just give in to the XP Home Edition. Resistance is futile.
I have VEY bad memories of typing class in Junior year, because of the manual typewriters. Because I'd have to push the keys so hard my fingers would sometimes slip and get down in between keys. I had hangnails for the entire year! I had horrible typing speed. The first time I used a Selectric, I thought I'd been possessed, I could type so fast! Not that accurately, mind you, but fast!
It’s raining in Virginia. Thanks be to God.
Heh...permanent hangnails is about how I remember my relationship with that Smith-Corona I had as a kid. I liked it despite that, but...it wasn’t a very friendly little thing, for sure.
But not all manuals are created equal, fortunately!
Like I said, I’d still like to try a Selectric sometime. But the way they have that low-level humming sound makes me a little nervous. My mother raised me to be pretty much convinced that almost *all* electric devices are just waiting for an opportunity to explode or catch on fire, and little noises like that add to that little voice at the back of my mind... ;-)
Has it been that dry there? Should we send rain instead of fish? We have lots to spare...
Yes, it’s very dry here. We’ve been on mandatory water restrictions for a couple of weeks. I’ve never seen the James River this low.
