This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

I can’t go. I was just surprised at the disecting part then I thought why not?
A friend of mine has one that I think would fit the bill for either of you. Not paint or palomino but gaited. He’s an 11yr old non-registered sorrel gelding, 15 hands or less, very calm, very smooth. They bought him at auction for her husband because he has back problems and his first horse was being a little fractious, but the first horse has settled down now, plus the husband is kinda tall and he looks a little silly on this horse. And another riding buddy has a registered black and white SSH mare for sale that is somewhere around that same age and anybody can sit up can ride her. She’s very smooth too, but she’s also VERY large, so there’s that. You don’t live too far from me, FRemail me if you’re interested and I’ll give you the contact info.
Hey, that sounds really interesting! I’d like to go to something like that. The cadaver feet would be kinda gross, but with your healthcare background it’d probably be fairly familiar. Plus it’d really give you a VERY good perspective on hoof function. Who’s putting it on?
Good morning all - I’m headed up to the beach house today. There’s an old friend of my Grandma’s who has ‘something’ Grandma gave to her that she made when she was 15. This lady is clearing and cleaning out stuff and decided family should have this thing. Don’t know what it is!
Maybe a sewing project... hopefully it’s not a pie ;~)
Going to go meet with her and find out!
Sounds like fun! Hopefully she’ll have some good stories to tell about your Grandma too. Stuff like that is so interesting! Be sure to take a picture of it.

Here's what I'm betting, because I have something that MY grandmother made when she was SEVEN: handmade lace or embroidery.
My grandmother at age seven embroidered a border on a length of beautiful Brussels lace (the real stuff). When I made my first child's christening gown, I let the lace in to the skirt. There was JUST enough to go around the entire gown, about 6 inches about the first set of tucks.
(Yeah, I spent pretty much my entire pregnancy making the thing from a Vogue pattern . . . ARRRRGGGH! those are the most difficult patterns in the world!!!!)
just went and looked . . . the pattern is still in their catalog, 20 years later!!!!! It's really pretty, if you can handle the assembly process . . .
The mystery items, made by my Grandma, were shelf doilies (unless they have a more formal name) that are linen with lace butterflies. The linen piece sits on the shelf, and the butterfly hangs down. The note says my grandmother made these when she was 15, to fit a shelf her mother had. There are four of them.
She said that one time when Grandma was visiting, Grandma saw that her secretary desk had shelves that were just the right width for these doilies and brought them over the next time. She's had them for years now, and is downsizing to move to an assisted living apartment, and wanted them to go back to us. It was really nice of her to think of us and track us down. :~)
She also gave back to us some rolling pins made by my grandpa, a lefse pin and a pastry pin. We all have these, nearly everyone in the county has one of Grandpa's lefse pins, but we'll keep it till we find someone who needs one :~)
And Barkley got to go for a walk on the beach. I brought him up alone, Dad and Dona hadn't met him yet. He was a good boy and came back to me... mostly ;~) There are an awful lot of interesting smells to follow on the beach :~)
There were lots of scattered pumpkins on the beach... Evidently that's one way to get rid of them after halloween ;~)

Very pretty doilies. I had some doilies and embroidried pillow cases and dish towels my grandmother had made until last week. I gave them all to my niece :)
Wonder why people are throwing pumpkins on the beach, kind of wrecks the view and they take a long time to decompose.
Of course, you'll have to find a desk with pigeonholes to fit . . . . like buying a hat + a whole outfit to go with a hat band . . . .
Barkley is a GOOD dog to come back to you from so many fascinating smells!
I guess the pumpkins make interesting punctuation marks on the beach, but not really . . . . do you suppose they fell off a passing container ship, like the 200,000 Nike shoes?

Slow day here... it’s rainy windy icky out.
Well that’s about the slowest day every in here! Where is everyone? I saw Becky in the Horse forum yesterday, or I’d think she was missing.
Levi is a big horse to move around :~)
I love the doilies! Even if you don’t actually use it, it’s so nice to have handwork like that from a loved one. I’ve got quilts that my Grandmother and Mother made and even though I don’t put them on the beds, I like to take them out and look at them every now and then.
