He’s 17.2. I have to use a step stool to groom him and get a saddle on him. He needs a 52” hunter/jumper girth, the moose, and could easily go with a 54”.

Good morning everyone :)

Is it possible fall is coming already? It's cool here today also and two of my pumpkins are orange, half the onions needed to be harvested and I got a ripe watermelon yesterday. Seems pretty early to me.

Hope you all have a great day.

It’s cool here too. I dunno what’s up with this summer.

I don’t mind. If it was hotter, I’d be complaining about that :~)

He is an impressive looking horse.

It is not cool here! Temps today in the high 90's with a heat index of 105. They are predicting 100 to 103 in some parts of Alabama the next few days.

Good morning (actually I guess it's afternoon)!

Levi is HUGE! I am only 5'6" and I have very short legs, my mare is just about 16 hh but very skinny, so she doesn't take up much slack in my legs.

We are down at my folks' house on the GA coast -- we brought the dogs but it's 104 degrees here, very humid, the wind is dead calm, and every time the dogs stick their noses outside the deerflies and skeeters just descend on them in a cloud! They are VERY unhappy!

My hubby has to take my son back home tomorrow for school orientation day -- so he will drop the dogs off at our trainers for the rest of the week! They have 40 fenced acres on a high hill with a pond down below, an acre of dog yard with 8' stock fencing, and a nice breeze and no bugs to speak of. The dogs will be MUCH happier there.

Hello.

It’s hot here, but the wind is blowing.

Harley and I had a nice ride.

Hey, nice new thread ya got here!

I saw the link you posted to the extreme cowboy race pics over on the horse.com forum. That hay ring obstacle did look pretty hairy. It wouldn’t have been so bad if it had been just one ring wide because they could’ve pretty much steped over it without stepping on it, but with two it looked like they had to step somewhere in the middle amongst the pipes or on the sheet metal. My main concern about it would be slipping and falling in it and the resulting tangle of pipes and legs that might occur when the horse tried to get up more than them tipping it over. I feed my hay out of rings just like that and to put a new roll in you have to lift them up on edge like that and roll them out of the way so you can place the roll where you want it. Then you have to roll it back and tip it back over so that it circles the roll. It takes everything I’ve got to get it started falling, BUT, once it gets past the break point, that sucker’s coming down, HARD. So if anybody did get tangled up in it I could see where they could easily get a broken leg or back if it fell on them. So I guess it’s really not a great idea to be doing that kinda thing. But you can’t tell some people anything and it apparently got a little bit ugly over on that thread after a while. But it seemed to be more of a case of “You pissed in my Cheerios so I’m gonna piss in yours!” than anything else. Those people are so funny!

Yeah - and I'm right in the middle of it...

Cheap entertainment I guess.

He is large and in charge, that's for sure. He's a lovely, balanced, very sweet horse. At 5' I look even smaller when I'm around him, and I get teased a lot for it, everyone always asks me if I get a nose bleed. I think that picture was the 1st time I had ever ridden him, hence the chair seat and awful position. (Things have greatly improved since then. We now look like a real horse/rider team) I knew that my stirrups were too short, but it was impossible to try to guess the correct height from the ground because of his height, and by the time that I got on him, I thought "the heck with it"! He's not so broad, but he does take up all the slack in my leg quite easily. When I first started with him, my legs felt so ineffective- I couldn't get them around him enough to actually use them!

We have another dressage clinic this Saturday, and a show in October.

AAM: Yikes that's hot. Humidity is what kills you. It is always humid up here.

LOL! Frog, you’re too funny! Things always seem to get ugly quickly over there. Everyone has their claws out all the time. It’s too bad. I read for the entertainment value.

It IS entertaining, I’ll give it that. But apparently they want everything to be all sweetness and light on most of those forums or they’re gonna start deleting posts. I got an e-mail just yesterday from the horseshoes.com forum moderator/owner about a similar decision over there. Be nice or get out. I haven’t been over there in quite a while but there did seem to be quite a bit of personal attacks there.

Yeah, you got your horse shoes problem fixed!

I’ve got the farrier coming on Saturday morning around 7am. I personally don’t see how the man stands it, working in heat like we’ve got right now. I trimmed Grace’s feet last night about 6:30 and it was still over 95* and heaven only knows what the humidity level was. I swear I didn’t have a dry thread on after about 2 minutes and I had the high speed fan going full blast. They definately earn their money.

Yeah, your stirrups did look a bit short. But after assembling your Alpine Assault Team to get up ON that big old boy, I could see you saying, "The heck with it!"

Somebody gave my trainer a big old Palomino who is a nice horse but VERY large, very round, and very forward. He's sort of an oversized Quarter Horse type - big barrel and a big butt, and 17.1 I think. I rode him and everybody laughed at me -- my trainer said, "You look like a peanut up there!" He really is a sweet boy and although he's very strong he came back to me as soon as I asked, but he's just way too big for me. And Gracie and I are just right together - she knows what I'm thinking almost before I think it. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

I took my daughter and a friend who came with her out shopping this afternoon, and it was TOO HOT TO SHOP! You'd open the car door and get hit in the face by a blast of steam! We would have sprinted for the mall doors, but it was too hot to run -- you break a sweat just standing there.

The dogs are well out of this mess!

OH, yeah. And did I mention the rattlesnakes? I can't let the dogs off leash because of the snakes, which are very much in evidence right now because most of the feral pigs are over on the mainland until the acorns come in. And then there is the gator that lives in my parents' pond . . .

. . . not a good place for dogs at all!
