Many married women choose to hyphenate their married name and maiden name. But there are times when you just shouldn't!!

SO this woman I know named Susan Best probably shouldn’t hyphenate her name when she marries Richard Lay.

I often go into a bit of “seasonal depression” around July.
That’s when Jay Leno has finally finished the yearly run of double-entendre
marriage/wedding announcements (most from May + July) on his
“Headlines” segment on Mondays.
As I get older and my bones get more fragile...someday I’ll break
a rib or two laughing at some those announcements.

I used to hire a lot of professional people, mostly engineers.
When I saw a hyphenated name on a resume, I tossed it aside. I needed serious people.

So if Doty Goodman married Truman Capote

I agree, blam. I do the same. It’s pretentious to say the very least and pretentious women are always trouble down the road, LOL!
Take your husband’s name, Girl! You’re marrying into HIS family; becoming part of HIS ‘tribe.’

Not really on the subject but my ex neighbor had the last name Dill. Their daughter had to work with a classmate and come up with an invention and name the company, etc. I don’t even remember what the invention was because I couldn’t get past what their daughter (Dill) and her classmate (Doe) called their company.

The real reason this hyphening fad is silly is that when little:
Jon Smith-Jones
marries little
Mary Johnson-Jackson
are they really going to name their offspring
Joe Johnson-Jackson-Smith-Jones?
I guess they must do something like this among the upper classes in Spain given some of the names they have strung together. I can not believe the US is going to go for the fad generation after generation but we shall see.

If Yoko Ono had married the speed skater Apollo Ohono, divorced and married U2 rocker Bono and divorced again only to marry Sono Bono,
She'd be Yoko Ono Ohno Bono Bono.
