Pope Benedict XVI said the debate raging in some countries particularly the United States and his native Germany between creationism and evolution was an absurdity, saying that evolution can coexist with faith.
The pontiff, speaking as he was concluding his holiday in northern Italy, also said that while there is much scientific proof to support evolution, the theory could not exclude a role by God.
They are presented as alternatives that exclude each other, the pope said. This clash is an absurdity because on one hand there is much scientific proof in favor of evolution, which appears as a reality that we must see and which enriches our understanding of life and being as such.
He said evolution did not answer all the questions: Above all it does not answer the great philosophical question, Where does everything come from?
Benedict also said the human race must listen to the voice of the Earth or risk destroying its very existence.

“THE EARTH GETS ENERGY FROM THE SUN! (Duh!)”
I don’t have as much confidence in the sun as you. The sun is burning out. The sun is another great example of the Second Law in action. The sun, and the universe for that matter, can’t sustain itself let alone increase in complexity over an extended period of time. And you’re trying to tell me that man randomly organized from lifeless matter? Did your momma beat you with a dumbstick?
In the primary sense. But sometimes people are speaking figuratively, like when Jesus speaks of "moving mountains," etc. It seems doubtful that the writer of Genesis was trying to present a modern, scientific account of the origins of the cosmos. And remember that "taking the Bible literally" cuts both ways.
John 6I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."
Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.
In you view will anyone, other than yourself, be in what you consider heaven?
Good morning RFC_Gal!
Everything in the universe is winding down. The universe itself is burning out, the sun is burning out. Things wear out over time. Everyone can plainly see the second law (uncapped) in action. Then you come along and say to me that man is a result of a random shuffling of matter in an almost infinite increasing fashion. The mathematical odds of that happening are as close to zero as you’ll get.
Do you understand where I’m coming from?
The Church has constantly taught that non-Catholics exist in varying degrees of imperfect union with Christ's Church. Catholics regard all validly baptized people as members of the Body of Christ.
Why?
Matthew 28:18-20Non-Catholic Christians who reject Apostolic Tradition, fail to obey, to varying degrees, the teachings that Jesus commanded the Apostles to pass on.Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
The pope simply reiterated the constant teaching of the Church.
I believe he said to listen to the "voice of the earth". That's some pretty wierd stuff.
The final step will be when he associates the “voice of the earth” with Mary.
Unlike, I suppose, the people here who provide their infallible interpretation of Scripture on a daily basis.
In fact, the Church has made very few dogmatic pronouncements regarding the interpretation of Scripture, but the Church does provide the context (Tradition) within which Scripture can be validly interpreted.
Why does a “never changing” book have so many versions and interpretations?
Worth repeating.
The term "evolution" can also mean "directed evolution" or "theistic evolution." "Evolution" doesn't necessarily mean "atheistic evolution." The Church clearly rejects materialistic evolution.
It's also logically possible, and probable, that the writer of Genesis meant his description of Creation to be allegorical.
You may not be aware of it, but you provide Catholics with much amusement.
Oh for crying out loud. It's like saying we should "listen to the voice of Mother Nature." It's a simple truism, poetically stated.
The problem really lies with the way the media distorts his statements. Reportage usually has little to do with his actual statements, which are usually fairly simple and direct. It's hard to impute good intentions to the media.
Remember the guy who wrote "Hitler's Pope"? He's since retracted the thesis of his book, but do you remember his mea culpa receiving any coverage in the press?
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee
Ruh roh.
(Great find)
I believe that God is the creator and God’s time is very different than earthly time. Therefore, I believe creationism and evolutioned can happen at the same time.
Yeah thatâs exactly what I am saying. There are billions upon billions of stars with planets through the extant of the universe. These planets harbor an uncountable number of civilizations that put ours to shame.
It is only the hubris and self absolution of our flawed natures that make some of us think otherwise.
Of course not. And the Pope is a Biblical ignoramus as well. Only you, who sitteth upon the right hand of God, truly understand scripture. And it sayeth what you say it sayeth, and sayeth not what you say it sayeth not, even when it doesn't.
You're a pontificating fraud.
“Why does a never changing book have so many versions and interpretations?”
That is the unfortunate result of numerous self appointed religious busybodies.
