I can’t do my newest one either.

I think the kids V-chipped me out of the loop.

I never could. I can run the thing with the the buttons, if I’m in the right place at the right time, but never could program it.

With the one I was able to program, the hardest thing to comprehend was that you had to turn off the VCR afterwards, so it could turn itself on.

My cellphone is always shutting itself off for this and that, too.

There are just too many engineers around!

Just think of all the advantages we’ll have when the computer is living right inside our own brain!

I could write a book about that ... Oh.

.

Never mind.

If that brain-computer has an off-switch for young children, I’ll love it!

I’ve tried various decryption techniques and still haven’t figured it out.

"Hey, did anybody ever figure out what that question was about?"

It was going around the internet as a humorous attempt at communication.

Charming tried to import the humor, and got flamed for the idiocy.

Basically, it relates to exercising and losing weight, partiularly as being male or female affect the process. Part of the confusion stems from referring to weight loss in pounds as an aspect of weight-lifting in pounds. One must strive to be clear in such matters.

I can't either. It doesn't seem to have a compiler. Or an editor, for that matter. Or debugger. Or even a keyboard -- how is one to write software for it?

It has an infra-red input.

You have to wave your fingers in particular patterns in front of an IR source in order to input the code. It's an acquired talent.

Actually, that's probably the easiest to comprehend.

You change the settings, they get stored in non-volatile storage. The system reads in its settings from the storage on boot-up (when it's turned on) and uses them.

Probably programmer laziness that they don't change the settings in BOTH places so you get immediate access to your settings. Or there may be other reasons. How often have I changed settings for some piece of software and I'm told I have to exit it and restart? Perhaps the same thing.

Now THAT's one that ought to be easy for a piper! Where's the character-pattern translation table? *\;-)

I didn’t understand a word of that. Fortunately, much of what we might once have wanted to record is now available on Internet streaming video!

Well of course it is, in all senses of the term! But mapping tables are the essence of digital systems -- I once nearly had the entire instruction set of the 8080 CPU (somewhat in tabular format) committed to memory.

Count your blessings -- or not! For many years I carried a card in my wallet with a table in it, 16 columns and 16 rows, with which I could determine the printable character represented by an 8-bit code, or vice versa, the 8-bit code for a character. I even used it fairly often -- in the good old days.

Internet streaming video is not the answer to everything, however -- I shudder at the thought of calculating numbers by relying on tables of logarithms seen on streaming video! (I had to do such some years back when I found myself with a problem, no computer, no calculator, no slide-rule even, but.. a log table was available).
