Today I tried to help a Mac user save some pictures to a DVD. There were more than 1GB of photos, so it made more sense to use a DVD than two CDs. Unfortunately, Mac OS X thinks that you need to make movies when you insert a blank DVD disc -- it has no idea that you want to save data to it. What you, the user, want to do does not matter. All that matters is that you do what Apple says a computer should do. This is "the Apple way," and some people find it enjoyable.

What you say makes sense. Thanks.
As stated above, first time through allows you to set the preference you would like to follow... if you would, at some point, wish to change that, you can do that via preferences (or via right-click).
The writer’s point seemed to be to make it appear that Apple in some way forces you to do something and then states (more or less) that Linux is better. So, if I missed some other point, I apologize. But, the tone seemed to imply something that was not correct. And adjustable *just as in Linux*
:D

^^^^^^^^^^Then you complain about too many choices - “Sure, you can change the setting, and its not terribly difficult at all, but the point is that the setting is there in the first place.”^^^^^^^^^^^
That wasn’t a complaint about too many choices. That was a complaint about having the initial choice made for me.
I’ve always found that macs and windows are just too bossy for my tastes.
The only thing that’s been made obvious here is that you don’t know how to read.
^^^^^^^^^^^The writers point seemed to be to make it appear that Apple in some way forces you to do something and then states (more or less) that Linux is better.^^^^^^^^^
That essentially was the point, you read it correctly.
As I stated, all the machines that I’ve used acted the same way, so I had the same assumption that the writer had, that it was a choice that was made initially by apple inc.
Ok. Oh well. So what. I’ve been wrong before, will be again in the future. I’ve never bought a mac, so that experience is not in my memory. Take that for what it’s worth.
But I think it does bring something to light, is that macs(and windows also applies here) are just too bossy. Ever since os 10 was released, I’ve always viewed it as a huge step in the right direction. Most of my gripes with macs now have to do with hardware(and the obvious restrictions there) and pricing.
You can, if you want to do it that way.
They're called default settings. All computer systems use default settings - including Linux. When using Linux, the initial choices were already made for you in thousands of instances. Why aren't you complaining about that?
If you want to make all of the decisions, you should write your own operating system from scratch.
Yeah we've noticed you don't care, considering you're constantly wrong on almost every point you've ever tried to make here. As for what your comments are worth, that would clearly be a negative value, with little to no chance for correction.
How are your Linux skills improving? I just came upon this thread from 4 years ago and was awondering!
