CLEVELAND -- A neighbor apparently angry about noisy fireworks shot three people to death early Thursday and wounded two others, police said.

Terrance Hough Jr., a 35-year-old off-duty firefighter, was arrested in connection with the shootings near his home shortly after midnight

The shooter was apparently upset about loud noise from fireworks at a house next door and opened fire, killing two men and a woman, all in their early- to mid-20s, Stacho said. He said another man was shot in the elbow and a woman was wounded in the hand.

We went out to our farm and blew up about $30 in fireworks with our son and granddaughter. Then we went to my brother’s cook out in a up scale but rather closely packed neighborhood and the neighbors were shooting of lots of loud stuff, all of course against both county and city ordinance ... I brought those little poppers but no one in at the party wanted them and actually we didn’t need them. I enjoyed them but a couple of people at our doo wanted to call the police. Interesting to observe.

No actually... I live in Western WA and thunderstorms of any substance are something of a rarity.

Ironically, we sat within 200 yards of the fireworks and lots of people brought their dogs. I felt sorry for the poor critters.

It's an independence day tradition, and it happens all over the country. I can put up with it for one night, it's not a big deal. Did you really think about shooting someone over some fireworks?

No, actually I thought about taking my bat, but I decided not to kill someone last night.

BTW, setting off explosives all night is a fairly recent phenomenon. When I was growing up, the police took you home to your parents, who would then whip your ass for embarrassing them by setting off fireworks past 10pm.

I don't really care if is going on all over. I live in the country. There are 22 houses on my street, surrounded by cattle land. I moved out here for peace and quiet. We just have one family on the street with no class. They do fireworks all the time in the street, and then don't clean up all the trash they left behind.

The trash is the other thing I hate... We'll be picking up spent bottle rockets for weeks at our beach house.

We didn’t do too badly up here this year on the Canada Day weekend - most of the fireworks got shot off Sunday night (July 1st/Canada Day) although some were set off Friday night, Saturday night and Monday night, too. Some starting as early as 6 pm, well before dark. But it wasn’t too bad.

OTOH, previous long weekend to this, Victoria Day, we had fireworks going off until after midnight from Friday to Monday. What the hell is wrong with these people? Very rude and inconsiderate. Almost makes me think the things need to be banned or licensed, or something, since apparently people can’t exercise good judgement to use them appropriately.

I have found policemen and firemen of the last 30 years to be not only delusional, but arrogant; many also have anger management issues. We're talking judge and executioner, here.

I thought about doing this at 11:30 last night. Why do people think it is ok to set off explosives in a residential neighborhood in the middle of the night???

Lighten up Francis. That's the sound of freedom that you hear.

Count yourself lucky that you don't live in a neighborhood where this happens nightly and it represents something entirely different.

Sorry, I like both Ohio and Florida, been to both many times. I just had to make a silly comment.

Well it was july 4, after all. And couldn’t we re-phrase your question thusly “why do people think it is OK to murder 3 people in cold blood for the crime of annoying you?” In this equation, who really was the most inconsiderate person? The folks with the fireworks, or the guy with the loaded gun? Do the words ‘proportionate response’ still have any meaning?

Ok, for those who need it spelled out, here it is. "This guy shouldn't have shot the idiots blowing things up in the middle of the night" He should have called the police, who would have told him:"I am sorry sir, but we cannot respond to any noise complaints about illegal fireworks going off in violation of noise ordinances in the middle of the night." He should have gone over and punched them in the mouth, thereby having 3-5 people jump on him and beat him to a pulp.

He went over the deep end. It was wrong. But I can understand the motivation to do it. Just for a moment I thought about it last night. I just decided I didn't like the consequences.

On another note, this is why I want a 100 acre farm. I can put my house right in the middle and not have to deal with bad neighbors. And they don't have to deal with me.

I would think that it would make a person feel rather silly calling the police on July 4 to make a complaint against fireworks. Sheesh.

Same losers who call and complain about the noise when the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds perform.

I thought about taking my bat, but I decided not to kill someone last night.

Well there is something to be said about level headedness.

My neighborhood is usually very quiet but on the fourth and there are fireworks going off from the house next door and most of the other houses around the lake.

They're loud and some do end up in my yard but it's only once a year, (with the exception of the stragglers that are set off in the days that follow) so I go with the flow.

May you never act on your impulse over something like this, don't trade one night of noise on the outside for 40 years of quiet on the inside.

One of the things I really love about America is the way its citizens ignore laws against fireworks.

Ah, yes... that little streak of rebellion that lurks in the American heart. Thank God it's still alive.
