Why the new abbreviated format on FR? Extremely annoying. It makes me lose interest in the topic not to have some lead in.

There's nothing to see anyway.
You probably inadvertantly switched from browsing by "threads," where you will also see the first hundred words or so of the article, to browsing by "messages," where you will just see the thread title, who the message was posted from and to, the date and time, and the number of the message in the thread. (You'll also see thread headers in the message view, but mixed in with all the lastest messages.)
Message view can be useful if you want to see what threads are currently active, even if the thread itself was not recently posted.
