Is this all a decade of movies is worth?
According to the American Film Institute's new list of the 100 greatest films, the last 10 years have produced only four great ones: "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (No. 50), "Saving Private Ryan" (No. 71), "Titanic" (No. 83) and "The Sixth Sense" (No. 89).
I get bloated just typing those titles. Granted, the last 10 years have been a historically weak period for films. They can't touch Hollywood's golden era of the '40s, or the heralded '70s, when maverick directors roamed the studios.

Personally, I preferred the English Patient to those friggin' Hobbit movies. Hell, I preferred Brokeback Mountain, and that movie was particularly noxious.
I’m with Randall. You would have to put a gun to my head to get me to watch ANY of those f-cking Hobbit movies again.
Man, think about it... hollywood stooping to an all-time low by exploiting cancer kids. Remember the old people in the spaghetti? And the horrible piano music? And the "trial", that existential moment when the cancer kids put on the rubber noses? What a damn awful movie.
A liberal once got huffy when I quoted Sturgeon’s Law, and wondered grumpily if that meant 90% of people were crap. Well, perhaps in Washington or within twenty feet of any Dem candidate.
Yeah, gay Batman and Robin attacked by body-checking hockey players. Someone else suggested Freddy Got Fingered. We can add It's Pat, remember that? I still think there's a special place in hell for Patch Adams. It's bad in a sense that none of these other movies can be.
“Band of Brothers” is best, hands down, no argument, and that says a lot.
It is an HBO 10 part special done by Tom Hanks, so there is a lot of material. Every single episode is stellar, though.
BTW...I did see the director’s cut of “Apocalypse Now”, so I know exactly what you mean.
Yes...Casino Royale has changed the Bond Genre, I think...

They have redefined the animated feature.

2 THE GODFATHER - Loved it.
3 CASABLANCA - Loved it.
4 RAGING BULL - Never saw it.
5 SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN - Loved it. Is Gene Kelly gay? ;)
6 GONE WITH THE WIND - Loved it. Watch it once a year.
7 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA - Boring.
8 SCHINDLER’S LIST - Never saw it.
9 VERTIGO - Loved it. Anything ‘Hitchcock’ is awesome.
10 THE WIZARD OF OZ - Loved it. Watch it once a year.

You're just not down with the trilogy... I watched all three EXTENDED EDITION DVD sets last weekend!
In all seriesness though, Jackson DID leave out what is IMHO the most important part of the story... The Scourging of the Shire. In the movie, the hobits returned to the shire, and everything was as it always had been. In the books, we learned that when evil is on the move, no place is safe from it. I think that was one of the most important lessons that Tolkein tried to get across, but it was completely left out of the movie.

I didn’t read through all 100, but I also LOVE “Children of Paradise.” It’s the French “Gone With The Wind,” epic and yes, you have to be a Grown Up and READ the subtitles as you go, LOL!
That’s one I also watch each year.
And let’s not forget the short film “The Red Balloon.” Very cool. :)

Pi was an interesting low-budget film done in the last decade.
Now as for Patch Adams, I will take your word for it since I hate Robin Williams
Don't just take my word for it, watch it (if you can), I dare you. But make sure your friends firmly tie you down to your armchair. You'll be screaming and they'll be laughing at your helpless agony. Not only is Robin Williams doing his usual role (this alone, as you suggest, is enough to earn the movie a place near the bottom), but in this film hollywood stoops to the all-time low of exploiting terminally ill people... elderly palliative care patients frolicking in a vat of spaghetti... Even Russ Meyer had more humanity than that.
There are some bad films that are really bad, but you can watch them with your mates for a laugh. You can, for example, get out the popcorn and have a jolly time laughing at Battlefield Earth (has anyone mentioned this yet?), especially at the bit where Travolta blows legs off cows. Or you can laugh at the gayness of Batman. But you cannot do this with Patch Adams. Patch Adams will make you suffer.
Ok, I admit, this one is stiff competition for Patch Adams.
Funny you say that Patch Adams will make you suffer. I wanted to mention this about Dr T. as well, nothing campy, nothing unintentionally funny, just horrible, excruciating, tormenting, infuriating and capable of inspiring murderous thoughts (is that bad enough for you?!).

Possibly the most predictable chic flick fantasy ever made, so stupid it could have been written by an eight grader, an eight grade girl who watched nothing but sappy, horrible girl movies.
Amazingly it got a 6.6 on IMDB, it probably scored a 6.66 because it is so bad it’s evil.
So an HBO special is better than a full-blown Hollywood production?
Good point. We should divide bad movies into two classes. The ones that are so bad (intentionally or otherwise) that they can be amusing (Plan 9, Manos, Cabin Fever, etc). And then there is the other kind of bad film, the kind that just makes you suffer horribly like you've been immersed in a vat of acid for 90 minutes or tormented by a crazy Marathon Manish dentist.

It was masterfully done. Better by far than any other full blown hollywood production.
I would wager at least 80% of freepers who have an opinion would agree with me. (I would like to find out if I am wrong: I state that “Band of Brothers” is one of the finest, if not the finest war films ever shown...even though it is a mini-series and not a feature length film)
