Charlie the black lab is in trouble after driving his owner's car into the Pend Oreille River.
Owner Mark Ewing had just returned home from picking up a pizza Wednesday evening. As he walked to his home, Charlie jumped into the car through an open window, and apparently knocked the vehicle into gear.
"He somehow got the car into neutral," Ewing said. "My car just went boom, down an incline and into the drink."
Ewing could only watch as his Chevy Impala sank into the river. No dummy, Charlie jumped out of the window as the car went downhill.

In the dogs defense, for some reason the brakes wouldn't work.

At least Charlie had enough sense to jump out of the car, unlike the eternally optimistic Toonces:

Before the driver dove into the water to hook the car up to his truck, he asked Ewing to hold his dentures.
"My car's in the drink, I've got dentures in my hand and this guy Keith from Clyde's Towing goes swimming," Ewing noted.
Sable, ID marked off the short list of places to move.

The little doggie was mad because his master did not get the xtra large family size pizza with everything on it that Charlie was waiting for.
When Charlie saw it was just a personal pan pizza, he freaked out!!
It was the owners fault!!

Labs do love to swim.
My new Lab pup just went retrieving in the water for the very first time, at our retrieving club training day. She's been paddling in the ocean and around the edges of lakes before, but when our club president heaved a bumper in the lake for her, she never hesitated.
She's a little splashy, and she doesn't like to give the bumper up, but she nails it every time and comes straight back. Not bad for a little 10 month old buzz saw on wheels . . . .

So funny!
but I do worry about that sort of thing happening. I don't like the kids to be in the car when I am not there because we live right above the river too.
To: AnAmericanMother
Our lab loved to dive into the middle opf the river and retrieve anything we threw done there for him.
He died last spring and going to the river without him just isn't the same.

Ewing knew he was in the Twilight Zone when the wrecker driver showed up.
