In the dogs defense, for some reason the brakes wouldn't work.

At least Charlie had enough sense to jump out of the car, unlike the eternally optimistic Toonces:

Before the driver dove into the water to hook the car up to his truck, he asked Ewing to hold his dentures.
"My car's in the drink, I've got dentures in my hand and this guy Keith from Clyde's Towing goes swimming," Ewing noted.

So funny!
but I do worry about that sort of thing happening. I don't like the kids to be in the car when I am not there because we live right above the river too.

Ewing knew he was in the Twilight Zone when the wrecker driver showed up.

I happen to know that this was a set up ... throw anything into the water and a Lab will try to retrieve it.

"My car just went boom, down an incline and into the drink." And...
No dummy, Charlie jumped out of the window as the car went downhill.

Charlie the black lab is in trouble after driving his owner's car into the Pend Oreille River.

A friend of mine went to the market in her station wagon, left the engine running with the car in park and her 3 year-old son in the car. He managed to pull the shift lever in reverse and the car rolled backward down a grade through the parking lot and across the highway.
Her husband was coming down the highway driving a dump truck ans saw his station wagon flash across in front of him and slide into the river. He slid to a stop and dived in and pulled the kid out of the car as it was sinking.
