SOUTH BEND - A man charged in a three-count federal indictment with lying about his citizenship status for employment purposes is free on an unsecured bond.
Matthews Kimu was released from custody after his arraignment Thursday in U.S. District Court.
He is charged with three counts of lying on a federal form for the purpose of working at local businesses.
He is accused of claiming on Jan. 8, 2003; Dec. 22, 2003; and Sept. 5, 2006, to be a legal U.S. citizen or national for the purposes of working in businesses in Mishawaka, South Bend and Elkhart, according to the charges.
The truth, according to court documents, was that Kimu was an alien in the United States on an expired visa.
Kimu’s trial is set for July 30.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Christopher A. Nuechterlein declined a request from Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara Brook to keep Kimu in custody until his trial.
Kimu was arrested Tuesday on the indictment, which was sealed when it was returned last week by a federal grand jury.

An unsecured bond for a visa overstay? And he’s just going to show up for his trial out of the goodness of his heart. He has broken our laws. Nearly half of the illegals here are visa overstays. Is it any wonder we can’t control who is in our country? Judge needs to be removed from bench.

MSNBC reports that he has seeken refuge in a church and we should feel sorry for him and let him stay! CBS says it’s all Bush’s fault that the INS is so “harsh” and won’t let this poor man stay, but the documents they present might be forged, not sure yet. The BBC says this is as bad as NAZI Germany. Polls suggest 50.0001% of agree that he should stay and Democrats are looking into this alleged abuse of this poor man, Harry Reed said “This poor undocumented American should be allowed to stay”. The Republicans have proposed a special amnesty cause, they call it the “This is not amnesty and we don’t pander bill!”.

The NYT’s reports this man is actually the victim. Obama says if we had national health care this illegal as well as 12 million other would have free health care and our problem with the uninsured would be gone. Edwards offered legal counseling and thinks the INS went overboard and should pay damages. 50.0001% according to the latest poll suggest that we should have a national Holiday named after him, the Democrats agree. Bush and Lott say those “vigilantes” at the boarder (AKA Minutemen) and stupid idiots who just don’t know whats best for the country will be “dealt with later”.

McCain agrees with Hillary and the Democrats on this issue but still supports the war! 50.0001% according to a zogby poll think we should make him President, the Democrats agree. Reid has called for Congressional hearings, Pelosi is flying back to Washington with her extra long stretched Boeing 747. Classified information mysteriously has appeared in liberal web blogs stating that they were planning to deport him and that it’s all Bush’s fault. Michael Moore said he’s new Documentary will be titled “I’m a Patriot too!” and will be based on the plight of this illgals struggle against the imperialist and capitalist system. In an interview Michael Moore stated “Haliburton has a government contract for the movement of undocumented Americans back to their home country and I will bring this undeniable, 100% fact, and truth, to light! The American people deserve to know the truth”. Foreign and Arab media outlets have already agreed to run his factual documentary even before he makes it!
