LA PORTE -- A 27-year-old La Porte man died Saturday of an accidental drug overdose less than 24 hours after getting married.
Michael Hart Jr. was found unresponsive by his wife, Jami, in their bed around noon Saturday at a home on south CR-350E in La Porte County. The home belongs to Harts father.
The couple was married Friday.
Attempts by The La Porte County Herald-Argus to reach the father and Jami this morning were unsuccessful.
La Porte County Chief Deputy Coroner John Sullivan pronounced Harts time of death as 5:16 a.m. Saturday. A toxicology test revealed that the cause of death was poly drug use involving methadone and other drugs, Sullivan said. The death was ruled an accidental overdose.
Sgt. Tim Shortt of the La Porte County Sheriffs Department said that the only people present in the house at the time of Harts death were Hart, his wife and his father.
The couple had been out Friday night and returned to the house early Saturday morning, Shortt said.
Hart had bonded out of jail Tuesday, according to the La Porte County Clerks Office. He had been jailed on a charge of forgery, a Class C felony. A court date had been set for June 8 but had been postponed, according to the clerks office.
There was no indication that Hart was using methadone to wean himself off of heroin, Sullivan said.
An obituary appears today on page 2.

Because it actually says so on the label and also because Methadone is the preferred treatment for Heroin addiction.
Taken with other drugs and even modest amounts of alcohol can be dealy.

Methadone is synthetic Heroin.
It is supposed to be a substitute that doesn’t make the addict quite as high.

Let’s blame the judge. If he hadn’t been let out on bail, he’d probably still be alive.

Note to women: if your fiance has to bond out of jail a few days before your wedding, perhaps you have chosen the wrong guy.

reminds me of the joke about the guy on the couch of his basement on the night of his 20 anniversary. When the wife asks whats wrong, he says “remember when your dad caught us making out and said if we don’t get married he’d call the police? She says “yes.” He says, tonight’s the night i would have been paroled. /h (flameproof pants on for a HAPPILY MARRIED FReeper!)

Why didn't they arrest the bride and father for possession? Probably because they have to actually be possessing the goods in some way in order to be charged with possession?

I say we should decriminalize all "recreational" drugs and give them away free in any quantity to anybody who wants them so Mr. Darwin can work more efficiently and make life far better for those of us who chose not to chemically alter our minds.
