A young girl is dead after a boating accident on Lake Travis Saturday.
It happened just after 7:00 p.m. in Paradise Cove.
Texas Parks and Wildlife says the girl and her father were traveling at a high rate of speed when their boat hit the wake from another boat.
Their boat went airborne and came down hard enough to crack the hull.
Both the girl and her father were thrown from the boat.
She suffered head trauma. He has a broken leg. Both were taken to Brackenridge Hospital.
She died from her injuries.
The boat kept running at high speed in circles.
A game warden jumped from her boat to get the other under control.
Their identities have not been released.
Sorry if it interrupted your day--but there are many freepers in this part of TX who will be saddened to hear this.
Prayers going up for this family.
This ALWAYS happens when the operator is thrown from the boat. It's called the Circle of Death. ALWAYS attach the dead-man switch to yourself when you're operating at high speed!
Not much good against head trauma.
People might jump on the father for some kind of negligence, but I'm not so sure there's a case for that in the facts of the article. Traveling fast and cutting another wake isn't necessarily negligent. There's also just really bad luck.
If someone gets knocked out it could hold their head above water keeping them from drowning.(though it seems not in this case as head trauma was the COD)
I dont really blame the dad unless he was drunk, it sounds like a trajic accident.
However, I wouldnt be speeding with a kid unless the lake was uncrowded and smooth as glass, and only in deep water with no stumps.
I know that all sounds reasonable. But I would just hope to inject a little realistic perspective, that even good people take small risks from time to time, and it isn't reasonable to expect that to stop.
People like having fun, and sometimes that fun is in boats, and sometimes its done to thrill some kids. Most things that are fun involve some risk, and ~any~ risk means that in some statistically small number of cases it will end badly.
Unless we're going to try to purge ~all~ risk from life, then sometimes there will be sad stories.
Agree........
Agreed. Poor guy, turned out bad this time though.
Yah. And he won’t need us to tell him that. He’ll be playing that sequence over and over in his dreams for years.
Too little patrolling — and a grass-roots effort following a hit-and-run-drunk collision — has resulted in a speed limit on the “Live Free or Die” state’s lakes.
Is this now a chat room? I come here to read about issues connected to rescuing our country from the leftists, not to discover that someone had a tragic boat accident.
You poor thing! There are plenty of other threads for you to read .. why are you even bothering with this one .. if it’s so UNIMPORTANT to you ..??
Why do you come to FR? To catch up on the “odd news?” You’ve been around here long enough to know what I’m talking about. When someone posts something like this, I feel that there is a lack of urgency and/or awareness on his part. Having to wade through a post-a-minute is ridiculous. I’ll bet Jim has feelings like this but maybe being all one happy family is the paramount goal of FR anymore. ... /rant
Ive been here 4 years and threads like this have always been posted.
Surely if Jim had a problem with them he would have made it known in that long time span.
Its easy enough to read a headline and skip topics that dont interest you.
Most members need variety to avoid political burnout.
Very true. Conservatism is way too serious to take seriously (all the time :-). To do otherwise will eventually make make you cranky and bad-smelling, perhaps even ugly.
LOL
Pretty much.
I will never forget what drew me to this site enough to finally join. After lurking for many months and becomming burnt out on the politics I ran across a goofy thread about a car someone liked...then everyone made fun of it.
What a great relief the humor was..I joined that same day.
If it was strictly politics here that would have long ago grown old.
Its easy to lose focus without some humor, and variety of subjects.
I saw the whole thing happen. As a matter of fact, I was the first one to call 911 to report the accident. Here’s what happened.
Two cigarette boats were what appeared to be racing and the water was extremely rough. The second boat hit a huge wake which cracked the hull apparently. The passengers got thrown out when this happened. I am confused by this article because I swore I saw two men and a little girl get thrown; however, the third person was not mentioned. The other cigarette boat turned around and someone pulled the little girl into their boat, but I think she was already dead due to the impact from hitting the water going about 70mph. They pulled the dad on the back of the boat, he was conscious but showed little movement. I still don’t know how he is alive. I called 911 within 20 seconds of the accident and they arrived within 2 minutes. The boat luckily did not hit anyone when it was going in circles. Once they finally contained the boat, it began to sink. This was without a doubt the craziest and most tragic thing I have ever witnessed in my life. Let me know if anyone wants to hear more details.
Thanks for the 1st hand account.
70 mph on rough water? Wow.
Im sad about the litttle girl mostly.
Its a good thing you had your cell phone and called so quick or it may have been worse.
I am the father, and idiot as far as I am concerned who was driving the boat. The speed was gps at 50, when I hit the chop I slowed to 40 mph, then saw the big wave and turned into it. To other persons in a smaller boat it may have looked and sounded faster. The boat (29 fountain w/2-502s)should have taken it with a bounce but lunged to the right, and bow down ejecting us both. I only found out while in the hospital that the bottom hull had separated from the top. Suspect that an accident two weeks earlier that put a 3 foot hole in the side (not my fault) may have broken rivits along that side that caused the separation when the boat went up. But dont know for sure, still under investigation, I have not picked up the boat yet due to funeral, and broken leg. Alcohol was not involved. But I am certainly dealing w/ the loss of my beautiful daughter who hit her head upon ejection and will be tortured with the memory of the accident the rest of my life and can only wish it was me dead and not her. asta
