A "screaming" Paris Hilton has been dragged off to serve her full 45 days in jail. Reportedly screamed and called to her mother as she was taken away. More.

I’d venture a guess that this is the first “fair” thing to ever happen to Miss Hilton.
Well, "fair" is simply a "cover" for society's lame-brained way of dealing with issues of "righteousness" that they really don't want to confront in the same manner that God confronts these same issues.
If we were to take this as an issue of "fairness" -- all who comment on this subject would find themselves screaming of "unfair treatment" from God, who has condemned all to death, for the sin that is rampant in everyone's life. In fact, God wouldn't distinguish between the sin in Paris Hilton's life any more or less than the sin in everyone else's life -- here -- who comment on Paris Hilton. All are deserving of the death sentence from God.
Every person who comments on whether this is fair or not fair, is currently under that "condemnation of death" from God, Himself. And there is not a single person on this earth who is exempt from that condemnation of death. Those who have taken advantage of the "pardon" from God, are not more righteous than anyone else, in their actions, but simply "forgiven" for their sins. All are equally sinful and deserving of the same condemnation that Paris Hilton deserves. As far as God is concerned, there's not too much difference between Paris Hilton and the rest of humanity.
The only ones who try to pretend that there is a difference between themselves and Paris Hilton are those who are also under God's equal condemnation (as Hilton).
"Fair" is, as I say, only the lame-brained way that society tries to make itself better than others, outside of God's equal condemnation of all.

For what it’s worth, the sentence was not “extraordinary”. What’s the opposite of that? Ordinary, or so ordinary that it’s “extra-extra Ordinary?”
What was extraordinary was the Sheriff kicking a celebrity loose after only three days. I think he did this for two reasons. First, is that it is a HUGE pain, and expense, to have a celeb. with this high a profile at county lockup. She’s monitored 24-7 by at least one deputy, and a sergeant is never more than a few steps away, either. Second is that he wants to run for a state consititutional office ror US senator in the next couple of years, and he’s going to need to tap every possible source of money in the county and state to make that happen.
The last bit is what chaps my hide. Baca is such a money-grubbing twit that he’s willing to erode the integrity of the department for a few lousy campaign dollars.

She complied with NONE of her probation. None. A probation violation is 90 days. That was posted on the thread. Again, she's been given a pass repeatedly and decided to do things her way instead. And my, the NYT is an authority on honesty and integrity.

This is not a goofy waif. This is a 26 yr old woman who believes that laws don't apply to her.
If this was someone like Rosie, you'd be saying that she flouted the law. You find her attractive so you're all for continuing to let her ignore the terms of her probation.
This is ridiculous. She should accept her consequences and serve the 40 days. This woman cannot continue to go through life believing that her money and looks relieve her of responsibility for her actions. Her drinking, drugging and promiscuous behaviour does not occur in a vacuum. She was caught DUI once and DOSL twice. How many times has it happpened and she WASN'T caught? And you think she should get a pass because she's "cute"? We are a nation of laws that apply to EVERYONE. I am appalled that Freeper men wink at the law because of hormones.
I am not jealous of her nor envious. No conservative woman wants to be labeled a rich blond bimbo of low morals. She is everything that's wrong with liberals, no ethics, morals or values. This is not a picked on waif. She's as much an elitist as Hillary. She and AlGore are a pair with the "No controlling legal authority" schtick.
Around midnight last night, I channel surfed the cable networks, trying to get the latest opinions about Paris. I didn’t see Geraldo or Shep, but I surfed into the Larry King show. I could only stand watching it for a few minutes.
One of his “experts” was Mark Geragos. Geragos said Paris’ sentence was excessive. I was hoping he would explain why he thought it was excessive, but the next thing he said was that he predicted she would be out on bail Monday morning.
I’m pretty sure “bail” has nothing to do with post-sentencing release. Maybe Geragos simply used the wrong word, but statements like this don’t give me much confidence in the typical “experts” put on the air.

I should be in such illustrious company, as President George Bush. But, besides being in such illustrious company, discussing immigration would be thread-hijacking, so I'll leave that one for an original immigration thread.
Could it be that people simply think that the judge did the right thing in this case?
Oh, given that this is a "board" -- I'm sure you can find people agreeing with all sides of any issue. As to whether it's legitimate or not, or whether it represents what I was talking about, is another story.
As long as the judge stayed within the law when he sentenced her he did nothing wrong. I cannot look into his soul and discern his motivations anymore than you can look into mine and discern why I agreed with it.
Oh, I'm sure he stayed wtihin the law. But, that wasn't the issue, was it? It was whether he was doing more towards Paris Hilton than is normally done with others in similar circumstances, but without any celebrity status. And there's the point of the issue. It appears that being a celebrity causes "justice" to be "against" you, rather than simply "blind justice" -- regardless of one's status or upbringing or money, etc. Many such people get kicked out of the system in no time flat, basically because they're "nobodies". In this case, being a "nobody" is a benefit.
Why do you feel the need to demonize those who disagree with you?
Well, you might not have noticed, but I was agreeing with the poster, rather than disagreeing with the poster. You should go back and read that again, and see that my statement was agreement. In fact, I doubt the poster would say that I was demonizing him.
But, if you personally feel demonized, well..., I could recommend some counseling. It may be of help.

If one were laughing, that would be one thing. But, when one clamors for their “pound of flesh” and complain that she’s not being mistreated enough (implying that she’s not doing enough penance because of her elevated “status”), then we’re not talking about laughing but hatred.
Laughing is fine. There are people, however, who have moved into hatred.
