Streisand's Rome concert canned amid pricing protests Last Updated: Saturday, May 26, 2007 | 10:53 AM ET CBC Arts
The Rome kickoff to Barbra Streisand's upcoming European tour has apparently been scrapped, amid a brouhaha by Italian consumer groups over high ticket prices for the famed performer's show.
The cancellation of the June 15 show which would have been Streisand's first ever in Italy has nothing to do with the current controversy, a spokeswoman for Concert Promotions International told Reuters.
Organizers cited production difficulties as the reason the Rome concert has been scrapped.
On Streisand's official website Saturday morning, the first stop on her European tour is listed as Vienna, on June 21. Other stops include venues in France, Ireland and the U.K.
Earlier this month, Italian consumer groups Adusbef and Codacons led a protest over the planned show at Rome's 24,000-seat Stadio Flaminio.
The two groups called on the stadium's owner and manager the city government and Italy's Olympic committee, respectively to back out of the concert because tickets were going as high as 900 euros (about $1,315 Cdn).

Couldn’t happen to a nicer liberal meathead!
Though I don’t like Streisand or her poltics, iif she can get these prices, more power to her.
Women, children and minorities hardest hit..
Its funny when liberal blowhards get busted on their own hypocrasy.
You don't see her hypocricy when she wails against Bush's tax cuts?
Hey she needs all the money she can get to air condition all those condos and mansions when she is not there like she demands.
I wouldn’t pay those prices to see a reunion of the four original Beatles opening for Wolfgang Amadeus Motzart himself.
Sounds like she can't get them, though.
At least not in Rome. ;-)
Shocker...
“all the money she can get”
Whoa, whoa, whoa!! You mean, as in FILTHY CAPITALIST DOLLARS!!?
I thought liberals never touch the stuff!
;^)
Well, I don't think she should get ANY prices anymore...she's already had two 'farewell concert tours'.

Well, I might pay to see him-as soon as I could sell one of my kids that is. :-)
I saw the old bag when she was in Columbus. My blood pressure still has not returned to normal levels.
Wow, as I was reading the article I was thinking of who I would pay those prices to see and couldn't come up with anyone, but I just might pay $1500 to see your hypothetical concert. I guess it would depend on the condition of the dead guys though.
Streisand's nose could break things.. The girl is swinging an olfactory sword.. that draws wind upon a head turn.. whooosh..
