USS Enterprise
Ships, aircraft and personnel from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard arrive in New York City on Wednesday for the start of Fleet Week. 1010wins.com will provide streaming video of the Parade of ships.
The annual Fleet Week event gives citizens the opportunity to meet the crews and tour some of the ships. There will also be several military demonstrations and displays throughout the week.
Norfolk Naval Base
USS Nassau
USS Wasp
L-CAC
USNS Laramie
Fast Attack Sub
On Wednesday morning, some of the ships expected to participate in the Parade of Ships up the Hudson River include: the USS Wasp; USS Hue City; USS Stephen W. Groves; USS Winston Churchill; USS Oscar Austin and the USS San Jacinto. Plus, several military planes and helicopters will fly over the parade.
Ahh, yes......Fleet Week. This one will mark the 17th anniversary of when I put my address on a PenPal board at Bailey-Seton Hospital, Staten Island during a barbecue held for us “lonely” Sailors. I received a post card 2 months later, and after 7 months, arranged to meet my new PenPal, who became Mrs. Shredderman 2 years later!
Homeport was just being finished when my ship (USS Moinester FF-1097)tied up, and the crew took in the sights of The City. Free food, drinks, parties all over and most importantly, free transportation! NYC knows how to treat the Navy well!
And some people say bad things about Sailors! I’ll miss it this year though.
That was a sweet story. BuMP!

She has great taste! What woman doesn’t love a man in uniform :)
Whether you make it up or not, enjoy ‘Finding Each Other Day’ :)
New York City hero Wesley Autrey is being honored by the Navy tomorrow as part of the Fleet Week festivities.
Autrey made headlines when he jumped on the subway tracks at the 137th Street Station and saved the life of a man who had suffered a seizure and fell onto the subway. Autrey used his body as a shield to pin the man between the tracks as the Number One train roared over them.
He will be honored aboard the USS Wasp by Vice Admiral Evan M. Chanik, commander of the Second Fleet.
His heroics have not gone unnoticed. Autrey was invited to this year's State of the Union address in Washington, and was awarded the Bronze Medallion, New York City's highest award for civic achievement.
Donald Trump awarded Autrey 10-thousand dollars. He also received 25-hundred dollars from the New York Film Academy to start a scholarship fund for his children, and he has been given tickets and a backstage tour to the Broadway musical "The Lion King."

Here’s where I’ll be volunteering. If anyone’s around, stop by!
The Moblile Canteen at 72nd St and 5th Ave, Central Park.
For activities in the area, scroll down to “Marine Day Times Square/Central Park.”
OOPS!
Forgot to say Friday, May 23rd, 8:30am till 5:30 pm.
Note to all sailors: avoid all working girls with Adam’s Apples!
Another thing: If walking along 8th Avenue and a man (probably several) offer to buy you a drink, DON’T accept his offer.
“Note to all sailors: avoid all working girls with Adams Apples!”
LOL!

Unfortunetly (or that may be the other way around) I’ll be in DC with my Sea Cadet Unit (John T Dempster Jr. Division) on a special tour of the White House, and also be participating in a full Military funeral for one of our fallen Soldiers/Sailors, along with riding/working the USNA YP Boats in the Chesapeake and visiting the military monuments. Give our regards to all the brave Men and Women in uniform this year from an “Old Salt”!
Thanks.
WOW!
Sounds like your schedule is a very busy one this weekend! You must have an important position. I’m so sorry part of it is for a funeral, but the military ones are quite impressive, aren’t they? Always make me cry even if I don’t know the person.
I’m the CO of the Unit and this is our Annual trip, so all the youngsters look forward to it. if you want to see the most Patriotic group of young people, go to my Unit’s website at http://usnsccdempster.homestead.com/
They’ll make you proud to be an American. And I’m proud to call everyone of them my “Shipmate”.
I’m sure your trip to DC is going well. The organization and structure, effort and fun you all put into the unit is admirable. My thanks to you and the other officers of the unit for all your hard work and dedication.
My 15 year old is one of those Sea Cadets in DC with you this weekend. trips like this and drill weekends are the only thing he will get up at 0400 for!
It has given me time to go into the City to see some of what was going on. There’s a buzz about the place different from the one I see when I’m there working usually. I’m going back up today to tour one of the ships.
Enjoy.
And we sure had a great weekend! It was a shame abt not being able to go out on the YP boats, but the Chief Craftmaster told me that next years trip we will have first crack at it! Tell my favorite “Brit” it was a pleasure having him along, as it is always. Also, remind him that he needs to start paying more attention, or he’s going to be singing and doing sea shanties to “SpongeBob Squarepants” more often (although I think he likes that too much!)
