What, the lottery ticket had hanging chad?
Let's look at the buyer's intent!
Glad I searched again, I was just about to post this version of the story:
I think the whole idea of playing the lottery is stupid, but they ought to just pay the guy the $500,000. It was their error and refusing will disproportionately hurt the lottery’s reputation.
Ya, fine, just go ahead and misprint me a $500,000 check so I can cash it!
sorry... I always do a search too... plus I always look for the weird stuff... still trying to learn how to do searches by description line.
Cheers!
Tonight I will find a link I saved to a story very similar to that, where the recipient won.

The lottery racketeers know their customers well. People dumb enough to play the lottery will continue to play. I'll bet the guy they're trying to shaft is still buying lottery tickets.
Guess it was pretty stupid of me to buy a one dollar scrath off ticket and win $150.
Gosh, next time I will know better.
