I think you need an eye in your name :-)

An eye? That's kinda gross.

Too heavy on whiney artsy Brit bands. (One’s too many.)

Hem, Marah, The Silos, Alejandro Escovedo

Now you’re talking!

I’d add some Fela Kuti, Chet Baker, The Hold Steady, Morphine, Sorten Muld, Frank Sinatra, Bottle Rockets, Eels, Joe Williams, M. Ward, Everclear, Eve 6, Tom Waits, Xavier Rudd, Saw Doctors, and Bjork.

Thank God Ipods hold more than 20 songs!

Drown could probably make my list. I haven’t gotten Son Volt’s newest CD, but I have heard good things. Jeff Buckley would be on the list, but I thought him and Smashing Pumpkins might be too well known already. Who doesn’t at least have “Hallalujah” already?

Well, great song but not an original. Eternal Life would be my choice for him.

BTW, saw Son VOlt live last night. Excellent show. Their new record is very good and fairly different. I would recommend it.

Also a “BTW”, Smashing Pumpkins new record comes out on 7/10. As the th Drive-bt Truckers recently deposed Jason Isbell.

I'm tempted to go see Son Volt in June, but several things are standing in my way. The Hold Steady are playing that same night, and I think it might be one of the last chances to see them in a smaller venue. Not to mention The Black Keys and Wolfmother are both playing later that week, and I'm definitely going to both of them. I really hope my eardrums survive.

I'm bummed about Isbell leaving. I will definitely be picking his new one up.

If you are a big Smashing Pumpkins fan have you heard Silversun Pickups?

I hve heard of them but not heard them. I’ve heard mixed reviews of their work. I need to give them a listen and judge for myself.

Good lists so far. People need to understand that if they depend on terrestrial radio or MTV to get their music, they are missing out on all the good stuff and in fact are exposed to virtually nothing but rubbish and they develop a tolerance for that rubbish that makes them less likely to ever try the good stuff.

A good analogy is a person who eats at nothing but fast food places like McDonalds and Pizza Hut all the time. After a while, their taste buds begin to tolerate that bland food and reject anything else is just "too exotic". Kind of like the cat that has gotten too used to cat food and now turns its nose up at sardines and tuna.

Anyway, here is another list of songs that should be on everybody's iPod yet you will never hear on FM radio. This is just scratching the surface of what is out there:

Ignorance of good music and an open disdain for open-mindedness is nothing to be proud of.

It’s simply a matter of taste; what your definition of “good” is. I’m fairly certain judging by your list that you would look at what is on my iPod with . . . less than enthusiasm.

Well try me. My musical tastes are diverse and not limited to the genre I posted my selection from.
