Oh, OK, I've nothing better to do on a Friday evening than recommend some songs. But these aren't any songs. Oh no!
These are 20 songs you've probably never heard of, but are well worth listening to. No reviews follow, as that will subtract from your curiosity
1) Sufjan stevens-Chicago

3) Arcade Fire Cold wind
4) Radiohead-Street Spirit
5) Manic Street Preachers- If you tolerate this
6) Simon Dupree-Kites
7) Crowded Houes-Black and White Boy
8) Depeche Mode-Home
9) Gary Bird-The Crown
10) Genesis-The Brazilian
11)Utada Hikaru-Simple and Clean

20) Procul Harem-Conquistador
An eye? That's kinda gross.
Too heavy on whiney artsy Brit bands. (One’s too many.)
Hem, Marah, The Silos, Alejandro Escovedo
Now youre talking!
Id add some Fela Kuti, Chet Baker, The Hold Steady, Morphine, Sorten Muld, Frank Sinatra, Bottle Rockets, Eels, Joe Williams, M. Ward, Everclear, Eve 6, Tom Waits, Xavier Rudd, Saw Doctors, and Bjork.
Thank God Ipods hold more than 20 songs!
Drown could probably make my list. I haven’t gotten Son Volt’s newest CD, but I have heard good things. Jeff Buckley would be on the list, but I thought him and Smashing Pumpkins might be too well known already. Who doesn’t at least have “Hallalujah” already?
No Frank Sinatra?
1. “Castanets” — Alejandro Escovedo
2. “Let Her Dance” — The Bobby Fuller Four
3. “Jesus Was A Crossmaker” — Judee Sill
4. “(There’s Gonna Be A) Showdown” — The New York Dolls
5. “The Streets Of Where I’m From” — The Old 97s
6. “The Trains” — The Nashville Ramblers
7. “Bluebirds Over The Mountain” — Ersel Hickey
8. “Wild Horses” — The Flying Burrito Brothers (FAR superior to the Stones’ version)
9. “Ocean” — The Velvet Underground
10. “Sometimes You Just Can’t Win” — Mouse And The Traps
Still no Frank.
1.) Thunder Kiss ‘65 - Rob Zombie
2.) Possum Kingdom - The Toadies
3.) People Who Died - The Jim Carroll Band
4.) Everything Right is Wrong Again - They Might Be Giants
5.) Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull
6.) The Old Main Drag - The Pogues
7.) Border Radio - the Blasters
8.) Rockafeller Skank - Fatboy Slim
9.) Roots Radical - Rancid
10.) Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog - Johnny Cash
Enjoy!
“Who doesnt at least have Hallalujah already?”
Well, great song but not an original. Eternal Life would be my choice for him.
BTW, saw Son VOlt live last night. Excellent show. Their new record is very good and fairly different. I would recommend it.
Also a “BTW”, Smashing Pumpkins new record comes out on 7/10. As the th Drive-bt Truckers recently deposed Jason Isbell.
1) "Missed The Boat" - Modest Mouse
2) "Going Against Your Mind" - Built To Spill
3) "Carror Rope" - Pavement
4) "Fans" - Kings Of Leon
5) "Ocean" - John Butler Trio
6) "Gone Away From Me" - Ray LaMontagne
7) "People All Get Ready" - The Frames
8) "Tender" - Blur
9) "Looking Out My Back Door" - CCR
10)"Too Much Rain" - Paul McCartney
“If you are a big Smashing Pumpkins fan have you heard Silversun Pickups?”
I hve heard of them but not heard them. I’ve heard mixed reviews of their work. I need to give them a listen and judge for myself.
A good analogy is a person who eats at nothing but fast food places like McDonalds and Pizza Hut all the time. After a while, their taste buds begin to tolerate that bland food and reject anything else is just "too exotic". Kind of like the cat that has gotten too used to cat food and now turns its nose up at sardines and tuna.
Anyway, here is another list of songs that should be on everybody's iPod yet you will never hear on FM radio. This is just scratching the surface of what is out there:
Ignorance of good music and an open disdain for open-mindedness is nothing to be proud of.
I amended that in my last list (before seeing your reply).
Looks like a poster billboard for cultural diversity.
It’s simply a matter of taste; what your definition of “good” is. I’m fairly certain judging by your list that you would look at what is on my iPod with . . . less than enthusiasm.
Well try me. My musical tastes are diverse and not limited to the genre I posted my selection from.
