AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 2236) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | May 7, 2007 | All of Us

Posted on 05/07/2007 4:07:26 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

As we settle into the nighttime of despair, fret not, for the Sun will rise again!!

Good morning!!

We, here, will never forget those who died on September 11, 2001, as we seek to protect the Republic from all who will do her harm!!

Gas prices have reached a new high average--#3.07/gal. average Nationwide.

The new French President, M. Sarkozy, a conservative, has indicated he wants closer ties with Washington. Conservative appears to be a relaitve term, however, as he believes Washington needs to take a larger role in countering globull warming. Nevertheless, the new Persident of France said America can count on that country as a friend.

The Optimum Population Trust, an eko-wacko group, says that it should be an environmental misdemeanor if you have more than two children.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Yes, this 60-year old apprentice bachelor is requesting that you stop highlighting his inadequacies! :-)

Good morning, Chair, Molly, D-v, Iowa Granny, all...

I can’t let this pass without comment:
“The new French President, M. Sarkozy, a conservative, has indicated he wants closer ties with Washington. Conservative appears to be a relaitve term, however, as he believes Washington needs to take a larger role in countering globull warming.”

I was mulling over today, after listening and reading so many articles talking about Sarkozy as “conservative”, “right-wing”, “reactionary”, etc, that we really must comprehend something about what passes civil discourse now:

Conservatives speak in terms of IDEAS ...
We try to clarify the ideas we hold, and trust that when people understand the concept we’re speaking of, that that concept will gain popularity and “win in the market place”
Liberals/Socialists speak in RHETORIC ...
They speak in a way that will frighten or cajole people into accepting that the positions socialists hold either aren’t worth fighting over, or they obscure the truth.

The “Sarkozy is conservative” mantra is a perfect example. At a guess, 98% of America NOW believes that Sarkozy holds policy concepts akin to Reagan, after hearing this said a few times. This is not even close to the truth. Let's talk about ideas, not labels.

The positions/ideas that Sarkozy holds are reasonably close to those Guiliani holds... or to put it another way,
a. Economically, he’s an American Democrat ... he would fit right in with the center position of the Democrat party, eg., socialized medicine, welfare for all, high taxation.
b. Socially, life and family issues ... he’s Rudy Guiliani ... gay rights, abortion, etc...
c. Military/ defense ... he’s pretty much along the lines that Hitlery has been hawking ... “pro-Israel, but also pro-Palestinian”, “anti-terrorist” and “pro-borders” as long as it doesn’t offend people, France should “respect” Bush’s positions in the UN and Iraq but should not rubber stamp them, by any means.
d. Ecology/ “green” ... I’ve seen no indication he’s any different from the IPCC position and therefore very much like alGore.

Anyone here who thinks ANY of these positions are “conservative” or “right-wing” is insane. If Sarkozy were in the US Senate, he would vote in lockstep with the Democrats from the NorthEast. Here, he would be considered to be a left-wing Democrat.

The French election (round 2) was a contest between a 100% Socialist/communist and a liberal Democrat. The liberal Democrat won.

lysie, go to this website. I hurt my hip about a year ago and could no longer take 30 minute daily walks.
This exercise has helped my hip so much that I can now sit Indian style with no pain.
I do this every day. It also helps flatten the stomach.

Well, MP... after reading that “Thatcherite President” article, I’m going to have to go review what Sarkozy actually has espoused in the economic arena. That article seems to say he’s actually suggesting some things much more radical than I’ve been led to believe. I actually looked as translation of his positions, though... either my memory is faulty, or the author of that article has his facts wrong. It could be either.

So: some details - re. economy-type issues

Sarko favors (and has accomplished) deportation of illegal aliens. However, he also favors “affirmative action” programs to help “aliens able to get work permits”. I’m not sure why you would give ANY work permits to non-citizens when the unemployment rate is 10%, but hey, it’s France!

Sarko has promised a 4% tax cut, and a end to penalties for working more than 35hrs / week. Given that the taxation in France is on the order of 50%, and that in addition to that there is a 50% tax of employee’s wages on employers... one would think that a pretty modest tax cut.

He’s planning to cut government labor, and get new requirements that striking laborers provide services anyway. We’ll see... 12 years ago that resulted in labor union induced major riots.

He’s proposed cutting “unneeded government departments”... again - we’ll see.

Meanwhile, he’s promised “free admission” to museums, etc... and to force TV, etc., to carry “cultural” shows.

Certainly, these are on balance, “steps in the right direction”, but the way I see it, it’s not very “Thatcherite”... Indeed, it doesn’t really go as far as “Thatcher-lite”

That said, I’m sure illegal immigrants would do well to pack their bags now.

For those of you who care about new technology/ science ... especially if you recall the “cold fusion” experiment stuff of Pons & Fleischmann nearly two decades ago ... I was pinged to this article you may find interesting. I think P&F were not treated fairly and follow-on experiments sponsored by Naval research labs seem to be indicating something weird does occur in similar experiments (though some posters are still hyping it too much):

Navy Heats Up Cold Fusion Hopes

The published paper is reasonably accessible if you have a science background:

After lugging rock and stone trying to get the waterfall the way I want it, my hip doesn’t hurt. Instead I have a pain in my neck. LOL It’s not that bad, tho.

Good afternoon!

lysie, I'm glad you were able to get so much done, and not have your hip hurting.

somehow I wrenched a muscle in lower back area, so I'm on Aleve and heating pad...

AF, time will tell about Sarkozy...He's a better choice than Royal, surely?! I heard that during the campaign he made a comment about the French student demostrations in the late 60s, describing them as initiating an era of entitlement and so forth. That sounds promising to me!

Sorry to hear about your lower back. Try to relax.

The black flies were little to nothing. Yippee!

Did you see this picture?

Cute or what? Just your average everyday people. :-)

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (L), Lynne Cheney (C) and her husband Vice President Dick Cheney wait for the arrival of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II at arrival ceremonies on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington May 7, 2007.

I saw them on the WH lawn just before leaving to sing. They look great. Gosh I love those people..

Raven, I just read about your bride's injury. Goodness. Hope you can hurry home to give her some TLC. School's still going, right?

Did everyone hear about the Rasmussen poll which found that 50% of Dems believe the President had prior knowledge of 9/11?? Cue the twilight zone. That is SCAREY!

lysie, all...

Found out today that one of my singing friends is in the hospital suddenly facing surgery for a brain tumor. She's in intensive care as the neurosurgeons are consulted. Her name is Sally..

Also, my '06 campaign friend is having cancer surgery tomorrow. Her name is Martha.

Please join me in prayers for them. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your back, Molly. The heating pad should help. I used it on my foot for a while and prayed over it alot and it healed quickly after that. I was surprised to find that Kattracks had died. I remember her very well and always looked forward to her early morning posts. She will be missed very much, indeed.

Well, that’s it. Rosie O’Donnell’s loopy scenarios are mainstream for that party.
