2007 NFL DRAFT LIVE THREAD
April 28, 2007
12:00PM ET
TV Network: ESPN
Where will they go? Lets go to the commissioner:
I’ve been out all day, but listening to the draft on radio. I couldn’t believe they passed on Quinn. Looks like yet another year of mediocrity. :-(
Well, sort of. After a littile time has passed. :)
The Deeetroit Lions go for local boy-genious QB Drew Stanton (Farmington Hills High School, Michigan State Spartan) for their second round pick.
This is not really a shocker - the Lions love to go with local talent, to help keep the seats warm. (”Look, there’s our boy getting steamrollered down there in the real-live NFL!”)
It is also useful as local doctors are already familiar with their bodies before they get decimated playing for the Lie-downs.
Stanton isn’t a bad player, and he did a lot with a not-so-great line at MSU. Of course, this points out that the Lions actually desperately need an offensive line and a solid defense, not hot backfield talent. But hey, they guaranteed the ticket sales again!
Stanton and Johnson will be fun to watch. The Lions just got rid of Josh McCown and Mike Williams- to Oakland for a 4th rounder. Now the Raiders have Moss, Porter and Williams. Talk about 3 divas! Good luck with that trio.
I see that the Lions drafted another WR......
On the NFL network they threw it in Mariucci’s face that the #10 pick in the draft a few years ago got traded for a half of a 4th round pick.
He’s not a bust at all. He’s been one of the best (and most durable) LBs in football for the last ten years. He tore an achilles tendon in 2005 and came back slowly in 2006. By the end of the season, Spikes was looking like his old self again (he was the Bills’ leading tackler in December of ‘06).
Same thing happened with Julian Peterson in San Francisco. After an off-year recovering from his torn achilles in ‘05, he came back and had a monster year for Seattle in ‘06.
Spikes should be fine. He’s immediately the best linebacker on the Eagles. It was a good pickup.
Holcomb isn’t a serious challenge to Feeley’s job. AJ was just resigned to a three year extension. He’s the #2.
I think Holcomb was just an insurance policy in case they didn’t get Kolb or Troy Brown (the other QB they were apparently interested in). Now that they have, he’s camp fodder.
Unless McNabb starts the season on the PUP list, Holcomb’s a dead-man walking.
Anyone who knows Lions football knows that when Mooch was in Detroit, Millen and Ford made all the high round draft picks. Millen should have gone long before Mooch.
He still keeps himself in amazing shape. Aside from the achilles tear (a freak thing), the guy hadn’t missed a game in ten years. I think they Eagles can count on getting two or three pretty productive seasons out of Spikes.
OK...coming up on Pats pick. Looking at the players left- I’m thinking maybe they grab Antonio Pittman RB Oh St.
Don’t see any LB’s there.....
Traded 3rd round pick to Raiders for——
Randy Moss? No info on the tube.
Chicago takes Garret Wolfe, are they crazy or is it a lack of RB options?
WTF?????
Are they going to draft anyone worth a damn this year? With all of the the 6th rounders I don't see what the hell they are doing.
Spears, Ferguson and Canty are the starters. Ratliff has been solid as a back-up NT. Spears and Canty are young but have done well and should continue to improve. We’re thin up front but then that’s the nature of the 3-4.
BTW I don’t care for the 3-4. I think a 4-3 flex is the most durable and reliable defense.
Good, solid 1st rounder by the Cheeseheads, IMO.
I have NO CLUE what they are doing...damn it! I see no point in the moves so far.......
Excuse me, they are getting the Raiders 3rd pick next year plus the 7th this year.
That will give them 5 of the first 100 players next year. 2 firsts, a second and 2 thirds.
They must really hate this year’s draft. I guess they think that with Thomas, Meriweather and James added to the D along with the return of Wilson and Harrison that they will be in much better shape. With the added output on offense that that will be able to shoot it out with just about anyone.
Plus, with all of those players next year they can draft some quality guys and rebuild on the fly. They will need more DBs and LBs to go with a WR. I am thinking that Jackson will be entering his 3rd year and with Welker they could add a WR in the draft plus a veteran WR like they did this year.
Think about it, last this team had holes at receiver which they more than resolved for this year, they get a stud LB who will contribute immediately, they get a play maker in the secondary and they get their 2 starting safeties back. With the picks they can draft skill players while using the back of this year’s draft for some back ups on the O-Line/D-Line and special teams.
Brilliant.
