Where Are All The Men?
fox news | Freeplancer

Posted on 04/17/2007 7:39:36 AM PDT by freeplancer

First there was Salt Lake City, and now Virgian Tech. Trey Perkins, a 19 year old student who is now on fox News spewed his story about being in the same room as the gunman while he reloaded his weapons at least once. Did he get up and charge the gunman with reckless abandon to save his fellow students? NO

When the SLC shooting took place, the local news broadcast a cell video of the shooter discharging his weapons. While the owner of the cell phone stood there and filmed the shooter, who coincidently had his back to the camera, he did nothing. Cowards, bystanders, and wimps. I am ashamed and disgusted. Maybe it is my military training or having being in a war zone that makes me know I would take action or die trying.

I would not be jumping out of windows or filming a murderer in action, and I hope to God that whoever reads this would not either. Where are all the men?

"How you react is based upon what you have experienced and how you have been trained."

Ditto. Training includes prior contemplation of the matter, so...

"society, feminization, etc. It’s just that I don’t believe they are relevant in this context. How an individual reacts uinder stress in a tactical situation has nothing to do with ... political affiliation.

These things do matter.

We will have to agree to disagree. I do believe the prof was brave. I also believe that he directed the students to get out the windows. Most people who have lived a full life will gladly stand in harm’s way to save younger people.

I will not question why people in the midst of pandemonium did not rush an armed man. As I stated earlier, when freepers are on threads where the hero is the gunman, they joke about the silly victims who brought a _____ to a gunfight. I will also not make light of people barricading doors to save people because they didn’t step in front of a gunman.

As one witness said, he was sitting in class when this a-hole walked in and shot the prof in the head. He then started shooting people in the front row. This kid dove for cover. As soon as he realized the shooting in the room stopped, he helped barricade the door. Bravery for sure, the gunman tried to reenter and fired into the room some more.

Each classroom was blind as to what happened and did not even know who the gunman was until the gunman was in the room firing. In a hallway where people are yelling, running, wounded and hysterical, it would be hard to gather guys together to find out who was the shooter and form the plan to rush him. By many reports even profs said it was just noise from construction.

I don’t believe that we have heard what really happened in that building. Just because we haven’t had a report of someone rushing this guy, doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. If my son or daughter were in that building, I would be proud of them if they helped get even one person out of a window before jumping out themselves.

Of course, I pray that none of our loved ones are ever in that situation and never have to make such choices.

"Now join us in prayer for the dead and their loved ones."

Been doing that since yesterday, when I first heard it on the news.

One of the few who acted courageously was a 70 something professor, an Israeli and a Holocaust survivor to boot. He sacrificed his life so that others might escape. I fear that that spirit of bravery and self-sacrifice is far less prevalent among Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials.

They are well trained feminized pussies; and that's exactly what the social engineers in our country have been trying to produce for the last 35 years or more.

Couldn't agree more. The plan actually fermented at The Frankfurt School in the 1940's.

No more dodge ball, calesthenics or tag allowed in many pubic schools now.

Zero tolerance does exactly what it’s designed for: and child that has a prayer of standing up for himself is taught that he’s wrong. I’d be locked up now for the times I defended myself and others when I was in school!

We’ve done it to ourselves/ let others do it to us. You can’t take a child who has never been given any responsibility or been allowed to fail and learn from his mistakes to suddenly wake up and say- Hey! I’m the adult! When we were growing up, children fought to be allowed to do certain things-more reponsibility was a rite of passage.

I appreciate and respect every person serving in uniform, but I tell you it is a fool who assumes that because I don’t wear one and I’m younger than 30 that it means I am not a man and my resolve is weak. A society of ninnies? Sure. But don’t be so haughty as to judge me before you have seen my character under duress.

It really bugs me that in elementry / middle school / high school nowadays if you defend yourself, both you AND the bully are suspended.

This little ridiculous "rule" is what is going to ruin this country, if anything does.

I cant blame them for anything at all. People don't know how to act in these situations without the kind of training or upbringing our grandparents received.

That is why I say...."We need to teach those kids what to do in these situations."

I blame the society that has created this generation of people who think it’s wrong to fight back.

Ding Ding ... we have a winner .... It is WE as a people who have failed by letting the socialists, the pacifists, and the America haters take over. I have news for everyone ... it's only going to get worse until we as a people take back our country. We can start by shooting first the lawyers (only half joking here)

ABSOLUTELY! I’ve always told my kids, esp my daughter, if you ever get in a bad situation-fight! Kick, scream, use every dirty tactic you can-it’s you or them and the first rule of survival is you!

Ismael Ax

Islamic in origin. It refers to the sacrifice of Ishmael by Abraham. The torah recalls that Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac, the Koran indicates that it was Ishmael.

This may be a muslim thing, folks.

I was a teacher before I had my kiddos who are now 2,3 and 5. Each one of my kids will be taught that if they are defending themselves or their siblings, they will not be punished by mom and dad. To hell with the school, there are other schools. Of course my 5 year old has already been taught gun safety, appreciates the damage they can do and can hit the bullseye 4/6 times with a .22 rifle at 30 yards. Our three year old is being taught gun safety also already.

There are some parents left in this country that do not rely on others or schools to educate children. Schools teach the three r’s, we teach them about life. I was paddled in school, mom and dad didn’t care because of the circumstances.

This guy yesterday broke about 250 laws (about 4 for every victim, just a guess on my part). I am curious as to how many more laws the libs will try to pass because of this. Hopefully people in this country will recognize (it seems that many are today) that if one person had been armed, much of this could have been prevented.

The newly minted defeatist icon Kurt Vonnegut would’ve called them ‘briquettes’. They went to their deaths like sheep to the slaughter. They cowered alone in corners and behind desks. They died in lonely desolation amidst a crowd. Were there no Todd Beamers among this lot?. Have we become so emasculated by the Miss Grundys and Nurse Rachettes of this world that we’re just a flock of willing victims ripe for the picking. We gotta let the Armed Forces recruiters back on campus. We gotta stop destroying boy children’s humanity from day one in the schools and in the media. As a worthy French pundit quipped this ‘briquette’ culture must end. We have become so selfish that the concept of a few good humans undertaking or an altruistic individual giving up the ultimate sacrifice for others never crossed any student ‘s mind. The only one to sacrifice would’ve been one of Vonnegutt’s ‘briquettes’ an Israeli and Holocaust survivor gave himself up to save others and perhaps show us the way back to our Humanity.

Hey Marine, you remember your basic? Do you remember your first DI experience, where you were so afraid of someone in your face yelling at you that all you could do was stutter? How you couldn't seem to think, even to save your life? My first week in OCS made me think I had no ability to think at all, and that it would be a miracle to get through it. You take these boys, who have never experienced REAL fear, and place them in that situation, and I cant blame them for anything at all. People don't know how to act in these situations without the kind of training or upbringing our grandparents received. Where are all the men today? They are busy training themselves that it is wrong to look at a woman's ass and enjoy the view.

Pukin, pardon my violating our no posting rule, but you are soooooooo right! This is nothing more than a vanity post for the vane. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Blackbird.

"...But let us not forget the brave men and women in Iraq. There are plenty of real men out there..."

You bet...I have kind of a humorous story about these young Marines who were with us at the Gathering of Eagles, and it illustrates this point perfectly.

We were waiting for the moonbats to come across the bridge which had been closed down to allow them to march across, and all of a sudden, a white van came speeding across the bridge, braked to a sudden halt, and the side doors swung open.

Some people jumped out with boxes in their arms, ran into the little patch of woods by the bridge, placed their boxes by the side of the bridge, ran back and jumped in the van, which then sped away at a good clip.

We were all watching this, and when the van took off, everyone looked at each other and said "What the hell is that?" I am certain we were all thinking the same thing.

Explosives.

While we did a quick discussion, four of five of the Marines suddenly took off and ran across the road to the boxes, while their buddies who stayed behind yelled after them "Hey you dumb asses! They put IEDs in boxes like that!" (all these guys had done two tours over in Iraq and several had been wounded by IED's...the abuse was, however, good natured in intent...:)

While we decided quickly that it probably wasn't bombs because they came across the bridge closed by Police, we looked up to see several of the Marines running back across the road to us with broad grins on their faces.

Before we could ask what they were grinning about (as if reading our minds) one of them shouted out with glee: "It was anarchist and communist literature! We pissed all over it!"

We looked over to see one of them with his back to us, still emptying his bladder into the boxes...

THAT is just one of the reasons why I found them to be such an impressive group of young men.

They saw a situation.

Took immediate action.

And the action was appropriate, daring, and...entertaining! Made me want to shake their hands!
