First there was Salt Lake City, and now Virgian Tech. Trey Perkins, a 19 year old student who is now on fox News spewed his story about being in the same room as the gunman while he reloaded his weapons at least once. Did he get up and charge the gunman with reckless abandon to save his fellow students? NO
When the SLC shooting took place, the local news broadcast a cell video of the shooter discharging his weapons. While the owner of the cell phone stood there and filmed the shooter, who coincidently had his back to the camera, he did nothing. Cowards, bystanders, and wimps. I am ashamed and disgusted. Maybe it is my military training or having being in a war zone that makes me know I would take action or die trying.
I would not be jumping out of windows or filming a murderer in action, and I hope to God that whoever reads this would not either. Where are all the men?
Standing around in their 'tactical gear' behind cars and bulletproof shields looking at their 'tactical watches' and waiting for the killer to shoot himself so they can waddle in and clean up.
Like they usually do....
What a great point.
Apparently the men are in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The peace-niks are in the university. They do not believe in fighting.
There is really no excuse - after the shock wore off, surely something could have been done rather than filming. What about throwing tables at the man when his back was turned?
Its a generation gap.
When I was in school and two kids got into a fight, the teacher would say “Let them fight it out”.
Today, young men are taught from the first grade or earlier that violence is never justified, that fighting is wrong, etc, etc, ad nauseum. They are innoculated with a victim mindset.
Compare this with the situation on that airplane in PA which was hijacked by Muslims.
Most young people today, faced with somebody attempting to kill them, are trained to flee, or lie there like a victim.
If it looks like somebody is going to try and kill you, what do have to loose by fighting back? Nothing. If you don’t succeed, you’re dead. If you do succeed and stop the guy you’re not. Either way, the only possiblity for survival is to fight back. Its a no brainer. Even animals have it figured out. But the politically correct cloud which we have permitted to form over us is engulfing us with destruction.
AGAIN - make no mistake about it - the Jihadists are watching this with interest, taking notes, and planning new moves against us - probably colleges or schools as they targeted in Russia.
Imagine the glee, for just one second, that radical muslim activists are enjoying, as they watch with relish, as the events reveal that the spineless Americans did nothing to avoid their slaughter yesterday.
Imagine their glee at the thought of the total victory they look forward to, as they contemplate doing exactly what their leaders have pledged: to destroy every one of us infidels.
To think that someone has said there is no “War on Terror”.
They may be right.
Easy sunshine.
How do you know they were all shot in the back laying on the floor? How many were shot in the chest as they charged the guy? Do you know?
How do you know what you would do in that situation until it happens?
Most can't and one can close a lot of distance in one second
I believe that these individuals responded as terrified human beings in a perfectly normal manner. I would not choose to disparage their “manhood”, courage, or anything else about them. They are guilty only of dragging themselves out of bed to attend Monday morning class attempting to better themselves. To suggest anything else is reprehensible.
Reacting properly under stress in a tactical situation does not come naturally, it comes from either having experienced (and survived) actual life and death situations first hand or from repetitive, tactical training that develops reactive responses without contemplation.
“Are all the brave men and women currently in Iraq?”
No, some are in Afghanistan, and some are aboard submarines.
cheers!
But they were not guaranteed to be killed. Obviously, the student the thread orginator survived, as did many of the other students who were in the room. You cannot compare this to 9/11, since those on the plane knew that they would not survive a plane clash either way.
“Most young people, especially those from the middle and upper classes who go to college, are deathly afraid of firearms”
What we need to do is eliminate all ‘no gun zones’ as these things seem to be where the nuts decide to do their deed.
This is a case of failed gun control. We have a gun law that always seems to result not in no gun crime but in massive gun crimes when they occur.
I saw part of interviews with 2 separate students who were indeed heroic as they barricaded doors in separate rooms. One after he had been shot and the shooter had briefly left only to try to reenter, the other as he heard what happened in a neighboring classroom. The later prevented anyone in the room from being killed although the gunman tried to get in and did manage to fire a few rounds into the room.
I guess some freepers missed those interviews or they don’t count as the kids didn’t die. Derek and Zach were the names of the guys.
You’re welcome.
About the nicest thing I can say (and without using profanity) is that many of these comments are very distasteful.
Bravo!
They’re being demonized internationally because their hired a stripper for a party.
I think it is possible that many students wanted to take action but were delayed by shock, confusion and fear of the unknown. By the time they gathered themselves and formed a plan it was over.
Amen Brother!
Nonsense! We have to start somewhere. This is, after all, an issue about INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY!!!
Dunkin donuts
Well said.
We HOPE we’d perform as we think, but we just don’t know.
That said, any attempt of a bare-handed frontal assault on a 9mm semi-auto is left for fools, only. IMO, of course.
But no one got together with a bunch of his buddies to rush the gunman, no one but the good Professor actually put his life on the line to save others. What was that quote? Something about there being more important and noble things than one’s own life? God bless the brave souls on that plane over Pennsylvania—but we will miss their bravery now that they are gone.
