“Timothy Henderson, 33, was recovering Thursday from wounds he received when the bear attacked him outside his rural Tetonia home Tuesday night, about five miles from the Idaho-Wyoming border.
Henderson was reported in good condition at an Idaho Falls hospital with deep bite and claw marks on his head, shoulders, back and buttocks.”

It's Spring. The bears are coming out of hibernation. I'm headed to Yellowstone next Thursday. There are parts of the park that are off limits because of the bears. Tetonia is about 114 miles from my house. I've passed through the area on my way to Jackson Hole, WY.

Authorities did not immediately release the name of the 33-year-old victim of the Tuesday night bear attack, saying he requested anonymity.Fear of bear reprisals?

Why is the USFWS closing parts of Yellowstone ?
Are they worried about the bears or the people ?

If one’s dogs is barking...it might be a bear or mountain lion ?
The federal government is also introducing Canadian wolves too...with our tax dollars.
Soon to a town near us ?

Evaporate the bear. High time to reintroduce the bounty system.

Parts of the park are off limits every Spring. They are opened for access again in early June when the bears have moved on. It's standard procedure. The partially eaten buffalo carcasses are a good clue that something very big is feeding in the area.
One of the areas shut off is Fairy Falls. You have to walk about 3 miles away from the road to see the falls. It's normal to see lots of carcasses on the side of the path.

Holy Cow! we still have Grizzlies in the lower 48?Yes we do. We have so many in Idaho that they are coming off the endangered list shortly. Hiking without an appropriate sidearm isn't a good idea in many areas.

Federal biologists say the bear population has grown from 4 percent to 7 percent a yearIt's global warming that's behind this.

" I'm headed to Yellowstone next Thursday" Crazy time of year to walk about in grizzly territory. They've got the munchies in a big way. I doubt any of the "what to do when you stumble into a bear" advice will do you much good, especially if it's a momma bear. And the chances of an encouter being accidental are slim, the bear would probably be stocking you. Hope you pack something with some knock down power for saftey at least, not that you'd have time to use it...

I know I’ve got wolves in the nat’l park near me, some large Black Bear as well and a few Couger (Mountain Lion), but I haven’t heard of any Grizzly Bear anywhere around these parts.

Hope you pack something with some knock down power for saftey at least, not that you'd have time to use it... I've heard (from an Alaskan hunter) that you can't stop a grizzly from killing you with any sidearm: instead, shoot the bear in the shoulders to disable himor worse, a "her".
