It's Spring. The bears are coming out of hibernation. I'm headed to Yellowstone next Thursday. There are parts of the park that are off limits because of the bears. Tetonia is about 114 miles from my house. I've passed through the area on my way to Jackson Hole, WY.

Why is the USFWS closing parts of Yellowstone ?

Are they worried about the bears or the people ?

Crazy time of year to walk about in grizzly territory. They've got the munchies in a big way. I doubt any of the "what to do when you stumble into a bear" advice will do you much good, especially if it's a momma bear. And the chances of an encouter being accidental are slim, the bear would probably be stocking you. Hope you pack something with some knock down power for saftey at least, not that you'd have time to use it...
