My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

;) This is the event of lifetime for me..Snow is rare anytime here..In April ..unforgettable. A local TV site had added this picture from a viewer and I loved it!

..I know going to the zoo was fun for you..I used to take my grandsons when they were younger. I always neede a rest day after adventures with the grandsons!

Nan and I are staying two more nights in a local motel with the cats and then its anyone’s guess as to where we sleep? The move back has just about taken every dime we have, so we’re trying to see if we can get an apartment, buy food, gas, cat food, keep the cell phone on, and move our stuff from storage (if we get an apartment), before it all runs out. Juggling running chainsaws might be easier!!! ;^)

I had to travel all the way around the world, but now I'm pretty well settled into Southern Taiwan.

It wasn't easy, but I got there. I also bought a cool mountain bike that I cruise the streets with on my way to teach English to well heeled Taiwanese.

I'm not coming back to the US (except for visits) until I can buy at least a tiny bit of land anywhere! and put a tent up or something.

Just keep thinking that "this is the last time", as far as "donning a younger man's burden", to paraphrase. You'll work through this, and you can commemorate it later as "Well, that was the last time I ever did that kind of crap!"

Free Republic is full of just such stories.

I once had a small company designing and building solar, wind, and alternative technologies from recycled materials. I must know a thousand tricks like the yurt ‘chute’ houses I can help you with. Solar heaters from beer cans and storm windows that can reach 200+ degrees at 30 degrees outside. wind power to turn your house ceiling fans for free, and cooking meals in a solar cooker made in a cardboard box (250-300 degrees average!) All for pennies and all working with nearly flawless efficiency. I might as well pass it on before I kick off this mortal coil. Too bad there’s no money in it.

Yes, "the best laid plans..." and all that. But maybe once you're re-situated you can benefit yourself from all the savings.

You know, if I were still trying to work in the US, I would get into general management. A good manager is always valued, and can jump from industry to industry with his ability to order things and keep them running.

Especially these days, the snotty attitude I ran into with the temp agency ding bats also pervades the society, such that a good employer will really value a grown up. I was going to find whatever general "manager" certifications there were and work to hold one of those.

My background is already in software. In fact, I was going to do just manual labor until I finished some certifications, but I didn't count on the young idiots viewing my job search as their indispensable chance to feel really, really important (finally telling one of those long-resume types how things would be).

Alternately, I applied for a part time bus driving job that would have fit my cost of living needs perfectly until I finished the certifications. But it took them THREE WEEKS just to get my driving record and contact me for the next step. I had given up and just bought my plane ticket back to Taiwan when they left a message on my machine.

Who knows, if they had been faster I might still be in the US. All in all I'm glad I'm here now, it would have been a shame to lose my Asia-living skill set after I had already built it up.

Maybe you could focus on your managerial and organizational skills to be the guy that always keeps things running well, no matter what needs to be managed.

That's what I was going to do, but I wound up here. Saving the dollars for my bit of territory. With all the hideous crimes and violence I read about (been reading WAY too much of that just lately), I won't complain about where I'm at in life!

Well howdy. Yes today looks grand, as did yesterday, drenched in sunshine.

I put on the spf 60! sunscreen and rode my bike around. Much more natural scenery in Southern Taiwan than in the North. I even found one large area that is actually a drainage place for when the monsoons come, but now is filled with growing rice.

It was so beautiful, with little pagodas for sitting down and looking out at the scene. Plus corn was growing and one dude was sitting by the water fishing. Flowers all over the place. I really wished I had my camera with me, but I can go back later.

Sooner or later I'll ride around and take pictures of this town. But I have to get the Thailand trip in first!

I'm still miffed at the resistance I got when trying to get one of those stupid general labor jobs. One was a delivery truck, and one was just delivering cars to an auction, but the idiot kept making excuses, like you need two years experience for the delivery truck. Two years??!! So who is a professional delivery truck driver?

It's because of the presence of the illegal Mexican labor (very non-upwardly mobile illegal labor) that they can make conditions like that.

Another moment she coyly asked me how much I could lift (I'm nearly 200 lbs) and I said most jobs probably don't lift more that 50lbs, and she said "Oooo, these are preeeeeeeety heavy" then started arguing with me about how recently I have lifted anything. I said I'm in great shape, but she said she wouldn't send anyone out who didn't do lifting work in the last 6 months.

Then after saying the car auction delivery job was open every week, she says, "uhhhhhh, my regular people have filled them all up this week".

So I figured, here's this senior software engineer, and multilingual, university degree, and 200lbs (and not flabby!), and yet I'm not qualified to drive trucks, drive cars, or lift things!

So I thought "Why does idiot keep suggesting jobs then arguing with me and finally saying 'no'?" And then I realized it was a pathetic game.

But I must blame myself. I'm the one who had large resources, but went to Thailand for one month, then India for one month, then back to the States for two months, now back to Taiwan! So all this costs money.

If I had gone directly back to the US, I would have had enough to finish the certs, so it's my fault I was at the mercy of low level dingy girl.

Now, that will never happen again, I can assure you.

I've done it before, but it's not exactly bantering. They ask a question, and I answer it. I'm a sucker for puzzles and challenges.

Japan is only the Land of the Rising Sun to China. To us, it's the land of the Setting Sun.

Of course, Taiwan would also be a Land of the Rising Sun to China, and I would remind China, despite its building up of a formidable navy, of the old saying:

"Red sky at night, sailor's delight; Red sky at morning, sailors take warning."

I think I got too much sun exposure yesterday while at my daughter's birthday party. I have not been worth one red cent today. Fresh air tires one out.
