Thread Number 3
2. A treasure trove: “confidential contracts, banking information, attorney-client privileged documents”
June 18, 2001
The bigger news is that Judd, 33, was on the settling end of a libel lawsuit filed against her by a freelance journalist from Louisville, Kentucky.
Larry Birkhead, 28, filed suit last year in Jefferson County Circuit Court against the actress after she allegedly dissed him on Entertainment Tonight.
During a 1999 interview, Birkhead grilled Ashley's mom, Naomi, about her stance on the proliferation of violence and sex in Hollywood. In an article that appeared in USA Today, Birkhead quoted Naomi as saying she didn't want Ashley to make the 1996 TV movie Norma Jean and Marilyn, about the life of Marilyn Monroe. "Pop and I wouldn't watch it," the Judd matriarch said.
Then Birkhead asked about Ashley's R-rated film Double Jeopardy, in which she plays a revenge-minded woman wrongly jailed for the murder of her husband, and, according to his article, Naomi refused to comment.
Ashley subsequently appeared on Entertainment Tonight, where she said the article was a "complete fabrication and her mother gave her total enthusiastic response to the film."
Birkhead's attorney said Judd's statements were libelous because she directly accused him of lying. Birkhead is seeking punitive and compensatory damages from Judd, as well as Entertainment Tonight. ET has reportedly settled with Birkhead, too.
Terms of the deal, which was inked last week, were kept under wraps.
"I was extremely happy with the settlement," Birkhead says on the phone from Louisville. "With it all behind us, we can all just get on...her with her movies, me with my reporting."
He also says he harbors no ill-will toward the Someone Like You actress. "I'm still a Judd fan," he tells Louisville's Courier-Journal. "In fact, I just ordered some personalized checks for a new checking account I just opened. They're really neat. They have the Judds' pictures on them."
He actually performed some very good music, if you have some of his older albumns.... IMO Col. Parker may have helped make him a huge star, but he also helped keep him from developing his real potential musically. His voice was pure baritone.

Elvis had a marvelous voice, it really shined in his gospel collection.
ME, too! Im a champion crier in movies, though. My husband was actually embarassed when we left Titanic because I had cried all my makeup off.... I also loved the scene in the resturant when the guy wouldnt serve Rock Hudsons DIL and Grandson....
********************
I still cry that hard at Titanic. Let my kids watch and they balled like babies themselves. It spawned a huge obsession with the Titanic. My 11 year old can tell you the crew’s name, the ship that ignored the signals, the ship that saved them... at least it spurned her to do research!
kcw2007 I have been searching but successful so far.
But, these three drugs, Larry, while acting on different neuropathways in terms of what they accomplish they all work to suppress brain activity. When that happens, it suppresses the lungs and when that happens, then the heart is compromised.
And, by the way, there's a very specific cardiac dysrhythmia, (INAUDIBLE), French, which has come to be known to be especially associated with antidepressants. It leads to a prolonged, QT integral and it can result in death.
KING: Are you saying that no doctor in good standing would have prescribed all three?
WECHT: That's correct. You'd have to be totally negligent to prescribe all three drugs, no, no way.
KING: Are you also saying that anybody knowing he was taking -- would anybody taking all three be in grave danger of losing their life?
WECHT: Yes.
This is why I love Larry so much. Strong, decisive, fair and sweet all in one.
Examples of the diaries to be sold at auction.
On her autopsy: VIII CHRONIC THYROIDITIS (HASHIMOTO’S THYROIDITIS) means hypothyroid. Google Hashimoto’s or hypothyroid. There are a lot of symptoms that describe ANS since giving birth — psychological as well as physical. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, it would also explain her hair and the bags under her eyes. Untreated hypothyroidism can eventually led to a condition (albeit a rare condition) called myxedema coma. Ya just can’t pretend you don’t have a thyroid problem; it’s gotta be treated.

I should introduce myself. I have read all for weeks and finally signed up about a week or so ago.
Actually, I think that ANS was offered 8 mil in re to Marshall and Vergie said take it, but HKS said no.

Hi! Glad you are here with us. Hope you enjoy our banter.
My, oh my, reading your linked article from just today I’m sure this means the the KE-HKS alliance has started to split. . . Big Time!!
“Anna Nicole Smith diaries were stolen, her lawyer says
DALLAS: An auction planned Saturday of two diaries written by Anna Nicole Smith in the early 1990s will go on despite a claim from her lawyer-turned-partner Howard K. Stern, who says the journals are stolen property and should be returned to her estate.
“On behalf of the estate, Mr. Stern hereby requests that the diaries be returned to him immediately,” an attorney for Stern, L. Lin Wood, wrote in the letter Wednesday to Doug Norwine, the director of music and entertainment memorabilia at Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas

Another good article on the Marshall Legal Battle...
This is very informative and easy to read and explains WHY the judge gave ANS such a large award in the Marshall Bankruptcy Case.
Pierce’s appeal of this award sent it to a higher court which ruled that the Federal court did not have jurisidiction and sent it back to the Texas Probate Court. ANS appealed to the Supreme Court and won and now the California Appelate Court will rule on the merits.
Whoever loses can then try to appeal it again to the Supreme Court...
or it may settle...
anyway, here is the link to the article

Yes. Gospel was his gift.
I think it’s wonderful when any movie spurs kids or adults to go in and do research..
He melted down on H&C this week if that helps.
Interesting she had thinned down and had an untreated thyroid issue — this would also explain her mood swings, being tired and cranky all the time...
i understand all that - but the implication of Birkhead’s article was
1)that Naomi herself was guilty of a double-standard for speaking out against sex and violence while her own daughter had appeared semi-nude in Norma Jean and there was violence in Double Jepordy;
and 2) the other tone to the article was that Naomi was ‘embarassed’ to watch her daughter in those films, when the truth would be closer to that Naomi and her husband just weren’t going to pop corn, invite the pastor over, and watch their nude daughter prance around like marilyn.
And when you mix in, Ashley not aware of her mom being interviewed to begin with (Naomi in Tenn/Ashley in Hollywood) and also being aware that her mother and sister have always been wholeheartedly supportive of Ashley’s ambition to make it in the movies (as opposed to music), when told that her mom ‘was embarassed’ Ashley made an offhand comment that the story her mom was ‘embarassed’ OF HER, was a ‘fabrication’ - which it was, and which comment could have easily been graciously retracted by Ashley when the context of the ‘embarassed’ “reporting” was further clarified. Obviously, a simple, public apology from one of the gentlest souls in Hollywierd wasn’t enough for Birkhead.
At the time of the Ashley/birkhead suit, there had been a recent flurry of false articles appearing about stars and the stars had been fighting back with lawsuits against the various magazines printing those fabrications. IMHO, Birkhead’s smear article was in the same caliber. But it was he, who sued, Ashley.
It smaks of celebrity setup - especially when both Ashley and Entertainmen Tonite were sued and therefore, IMO, it was, pretty smarmy of Birkhead. It’s hard not to note, immediately after the suit, his career changed from ‘journalist’ to ‘celebrity photographer’. I also felt him getting checks with the Judd’s pictures on them, in very poor taste. It would be equivalent of a ex=wife putting her ex=hubbies picture on her checks she wrote against alimony. Smarmy. but that’s just MHO.
“tape of Cyril Wendt”
Did anyone see where Wyect said that the reason people don’t like him was because of his name? i.e. Stern is Jewish. That was a racist comment from somebody who should know better.
You have not heard anybody here on this site make a big deal that all the decision makers in the autopsy and burial decisions of Anna Nicole were Jewish, as well.
Perper, Judge Siedlin, Richard Millstein, Cyril Wyeck and HKS Stern.
I cannot believe Wyeck would say that racist remark.
my understanding of the Supreme Court ruling - I don't recall the Supreme Court making any determination as to the validity of Anna's claims per se, only the question of the validity of the Federal Court as an appropriate venue for suit - that is, that probate was not, limited, to State courts. The Supreme Court upheld that the Federal Court was appropriate, and tossed the case back to Federal Court (and I believe the ruling put the IRS into a [heretofor unheld] very, favorable, position, as to probate of wills in the future). Please correct me if I am wrong.
